So I added modern marvels to my plex but was having trouble with the ordering of episodes. The original files had the correct notation such as S04E05 Episode Name. I would click into one with the thumbnail showing something like the Eiffel tower and then the episode would be hoover dam (just an example not the actual ones)
First I tried changing the settings and doing it by dvd release, absolute numbering, none of that fixed it. Then I checked the TVDB and noticed the numbering was off. The really weird thing is, the episode and season numbers on the files were correct. When I searched an episode and it showed up on IMDB the original filename had it right, yet if you go to TVDB it isn’t. For example, Modern Marvels Machine Guns is S09E14 on IMDB, yet it is s10E18 on the TVDB.
I went through the tedious process of renaming every episode what it shows up as on the TVDB. That for the most part made it work great, but weirdly enough while the majority of episodes show up correctly, some just say “episode 4” or something like that in certain places. Below is a screenshot showing it. There are things like space shuttle showing the episode title, then the next one just says episode 2. I have tried refreshing the meta data. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
The files also include the episode title, is there anyway to have it just display what is in the title?
Are these episodes in mp4/m4v format? If so, do this:
Go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie (Legacy)
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the whole show.
If your movie library already uses the new “Plex TV Shows (BETA)” agent, do this instead: Edit your library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab clear the check mark out of “Prefer local metadata”
I have had some episode titles get stuck like this too and refresh Metadata didn’t want to fix it. The only way I could get fixed was to remove the episodes from the library, perform The Plex Dance and then add the episodes back in.
Thanks for the help both of you. I tried doing both. I did the plex dance with it gone then changed the order and put tvdb at the top. Unfortunately now none of the episodes show anything. Before it was good for the most part. Any idea how I could fix or at least get it back?
Nevermind everyone it works now! Thanks for all your help. The issue was when I removed it entirely from plex and put it back, it was no longer set to display by air date and went back to display by dvd release. Once I changed it all the episodes shows up. Thanks again.
