I am about to move my windows plex server (plex pass) to another windows computer. After copying server data from the source server and exporting the Plex Media Server registry key, do I need to sign out and quit the source Plex Media Server or do I just need to quit/exit Plex before installing plex on my new server?
You can leave the source server intact.
However, make absolutely sure that it is not running anymore – not even shortly.
If you later decide that you want the old and the new server running concurently, you’ll have to perform some manipulations in the Windows registry so that one of the servers is getting a new “identity”.
It is crucial that the source Plex server is not running while you are copying the plex data folder. Otherwise you’ll end up with a damaged database.
