New Server Version#: 1.41.0.8994 Linux vHost connecting to TrueNAS server for files
Old Server Version #: 1.25.2.5319 FreeNAS using the Plex plugin
I have read a lot of posts on moving to a new server. My setup is a little different. I have my old FreeNAs with Plex plugin running on an old desktop PC.
My new setup is running a Plex as a vHost that is up to date that gets its files from 100% different storage, a trueNAS running on a real server. I have copied all the files so each Plex server uses different storage and have different configuration.
I would love to be able to somehow copy the Friends&Family list from the old “A” server to the new one “B” while keeping everything else as it is on “B”.
I had thought it would be easy to tell everyone to just change their setting… Then I tried to get my 80 year old mother and older aunts to back the change. It will be down to flying across the country to make the change for them or find a way to move the Family shares file and rename “B” to “A”.
Do I start saving for all the airline miles or is there hope out there?
If you have both servers claimed into the the same plex.tv account, you can do that yourself. Though you need to treat each user separately. There is no bulk editing.
You click on each user’s name in your Plex Home list https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home
and/or under Manage Library access https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/manage-library-access
On the first tab “Libraries”, you should see both of your servers, which you then can “Edit” and tick those libraries on the new server, to which you want your family to have access.
Once you’ve done that, these libraries should appear on the Home page of your family automatically (they may have to restart their Plex clients).
In a second step you can revoke their access to the libraries on the old server.
