Movie and sequel match correctly but won't both show at the same time

These two films are bumping each other out of the library so only one will show up at a time:

While they are showing both of the movies match correctly to their separate entries and the “Fix match” menu properly shows two different options (and all of Plex/tmdb/imdb/tvdb sites list them as two separate things). But if I try to put them both into my library at the same time only whichever one Plex scanned second will show up.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Plex dancing both
  • Plex dancing each one individually
  • Renaming to Hardbodies_2 and dancing
  • Renaming to Hardbodies II and dancing
  • Adding {edition-sequel} to try to generate a separate entry and dancing
  • Manually rescanning the library (this just flips which one is currently showing)

I’ve run out of ideas at this point so if anybody has any suggestions to try I’m all ears.

There are plenty of other movies on the same server that work fine, so it’s not a connection issue.

Considering that these are mp4 files – did you check for embedded meta tags?

  1. If you have enabled “Prefer local meta tags” in the properties of your movie library, consider turning it off. It usually isn’t advisable enabling it unless you’re exerting tight control over all embeded meta tags in your files.
  2. Both movies are R-rated. They will only match if “Include adult content” has been enabled in the properties of the library.
  3. Perform the Plex Dance with both movies. Add them back individually.

Prefer local metadata is already turned off and neither file has any sort of title/other metadata embedded in it that I can see.

Include Adult content is already turned on.

Both of the films show the correct match and appear to load the correct metadata (poster/title/etc.) from tmdb when I put them in individually. They just also kick the other one out of the library when they do for some strange reason.

Plex Dance

Things I’ve tried:
-Plex dancing both
-Plex dancing each one individually
-Renaming to Hardbodies_2 and dancing
-Renaming to Hardbodies II and dancing
-Adding {edition-sequel} to try to generate a separate entry and dancing

I will investigate with the metadata team.

So I just tried completely deleting and repulling fresh copies of the .mp4 files down and it looks like it’s working now for some strange reason. My guess is maybe something went sideways in my linker program so one of the hard links that got placed in the media directory wasn’t pointed properly.

Thank you for all of your help though, it’s always cool to report something and get a quick answer!
