Movie won't add to the DB

I have two movies that are similar (parts 1 and 2) but only one of them is showing up in Plex.

The files and their respective IMDB locations are:
Beyond the Prairie The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder (1999).m4v

Beyond the Prairie Part 2 The True Story of Laura Ingalls Wilder (2002).m4v

Only the first movie shows up. It does not merge them together. It is like it just skips over the second film.

I have tried renaming it to be just “Beyond the Prairie (2002)” and that doesn’t work either.

Any help is very appreciated!!

Have you checked your m4v files for internal metadata?

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. empty the log folder
  5. start Plex Server
  6. wait 2 minutes
  7. Plex Dance the second movie
  8. wait 5 minutes
  9. shut down Plex server
  10. wait 1 minute
  11. zip up the whole log folder and attach it here

During this procedure, please don’t do anything else with Plex. No library browsing or watching or…

No, I have not. I will do these steps in a little while when no one else is on the server so I don’t contaminate the logs. Both movies were ripped from the same disc at the same time and they both play fine out side of Plex. Thanks.

Got through step 7 and it added the movie but attached it (merged it with) a Little House on The Prairie movie we have (http://www.amazon.com/Little-House-Prairie-Legacy-Ingalls/dp/B00QHM4DI0). I completed the steps and have attached the logs. I could split the merged files and try to get a match but wanted to send the logs first to see if there was something else I should do. Thanks for your help.

Yes, please do that. Apart from that, I’d recommend you to switch fully to “one subfolder per movie”. Which you are only using now when a movie has local extras (as far as I can see).

Did the inspection of internal metadata turn up anything?
I’d go to Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Freebase
and drag ‘Local Media Assets’ downwards, below ‘Freebase’ and ‘TheMovieDB’. Unfortunately this has also the effect that now your locally saved posters are not used as first choice.
Only you can decide what is more important to you: the local posters or avoiding interference from internal metadata.

Hmmm, I split the files. Found which one was the incorrect one. I unmatched it so that all of the extras and such go away and then I Matched it. The Match screen shows the correct movie. I double click that movie name (which it shows as a 100 percent match, yea!) and it spins for a second and then matches to the Little House movie again and they are merged again.

Does the match screen show other choices as well? Maybe the same correct movie, but with a lower score? If so, try that one.

No, just the one. Based on an earlier response, I even tried putting it in its own folder and did the Plex Dance and it just merged it with the Little House again.

OK, I pulled them both out (in their sub folders) and did the Plex Dance. Then put the Beyond movie back in and refreshed. It showed up correctly and then added in the Laura Ingalls Wilder movie and did the refresh and now they are all there correctly.

Thanks for your assistance.
