Movie Box Sets

Hi

Please can someone tell me how to set up movie box sets so that they all kept in one folder and not spread out amongst the rest of my movies…So for instance i want 1 james bond poster among all my movies, and if i click on that poster i want it to give me all the james bond movies i have.

At the moment my box sets are set up in this way: I have each james bond movie in there own movie name folder with there own local poster, then i have all the folders in one folder called “James Bond”.

I would appreciate any help, as i have 1500 movies and quite a lot of box sets.

Thank You

Hi lionking15 and welcome here at the Plex forums,

There are a few ways you could go about what you want.

Whilst Plex out of the box doesn’t have support for Box-Sets built in, it offers the Collections feature which is getting close.

So what you can do is scan the box sets into your library as individual Movies - then you go and “Edit Metadata” and specify a Collection for each of the “james Bond” Movies etc…

When going into “your Movies” you should have a “filter screen” come up which let’s you select “By Collections”…

Additionally - to keep your main movies section a little more “clean” you could think about adding your Box-Sets into a separate Movie Section (separate Directory). Then combine this with Collections and you should have a reasonably clean setup…

Thank you for your help…I will try that

for bond I wanted it with my movies so what I did is manually edited the sort title eg james bond A1 - Dr. No so they show up under my movies but they are all sorted under J for James Bond. This works for the first 9 movies then you have to go James Bond B1 - B9 for the 10th - t9th and then C1-C9 for the 20th to the 23rd or 24th movie.

Thanks for your help guys

This makes for a VERY UGLY browsing / user experience. There needs to be the ability to have a single item / movie selection branch into sub-selections… So you could have say “Avatar” - then click on that, and under it you would see “Feature Film”, “Trailer”, “Behind the scenes”, etc. The ability to customize the selection process and if to use metadata or not is key. I do this now with the My Movies plugin for SageTV… Just looking for other options since Google has yet to update SageTV or provide any information if they ever will.

The above method should not require a user to change views, or sort by a collection, etc… It should just display however its configured to display

I just want to bump up this request. I would really like to see this implemented as well. This is the only feature I’m missing from Plex right now. The way XBMC handles it by scraping the movie set data automatically is really nice. Obviously, there are other reasons for me to pick Plex right now, but this feature would be really nice.

I have reached the same conclusion. This feature is deifintely a requirement. I have bee looking for alternatives to MyMovies and Windows MCE. Plex is certainly my preffreed choice however the ability for box sets as above is missing, the media manager is not as good as MyMovies and a bit “buggy”, and another key feature that is currently mising is the ability

Another slight disppointment is that a great feature> MULTI VERSON MEDIA (ie multple versions of the same file to stream to diffrent devices - is still only availble on a MAC OS

http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Media_Naming_and_Organization_Guide#Multi-Version_Media

The streaming capabilites look fantstasic.

i was also pleased to seee that ISOs can be played on the local player.

If the abovbe features can be introduced it would be awesome.

This request is around for years now. I really don’t understand why it was not implemented yet.
I decided to not load my James Bond collection to the Plex server because of the poor management possibilities. I am waiting for 3 years now, maybe it is time to look for alternatives. Plex is nice, but it has this disappointing drawback.

Not sure it helps, but I’ll add my support for this request as well. While we all have many things on a wish list, the lack of true “box set” support really is the most annoying aspect of using Plex for me.

I handle these kind of things quite simply. I use the “Sort name” field and name the movies in a group with a unique name that makes sense and the date of release to keep them in order. That is for the James Bond movies the sort name for each one is “James Bond xxxx” where xxxx is the year of release.

For the movies that can have more that one release in a year I add the month like “Tarzan xxxx yy” where xxxx is as above and yy is the month in two digit form.

I find that this is a decent workaround for Plex’s poor implementation of collections. It is not perfect but it does keep movies from the same ilk grouped together.

Box set how to https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201273953-Collections

I’m a Bond Fan. I simply made a ‘Bond, James Bond’ library and put all 25 titles in it, then using the ‘Sort Title’ I entered the year there for each title, they all show up in order. Yes, you can sort by year after you get there, but my workaround means they’re all in the order I want them in when I arrive - and no messy Collections need to be created, found or maintained.

I migrated from a different solution (that i used for many many years). I am still running Plex Pass because it is way more advanced than the other solution was at the time (haven’t checked to see how they are coming along lately). But they had a box set plugin that automatically searched the movie library, grabbed meta for box sets off the ole internet, and nested links of the movies in the library to the appropriate box set directory. Fully automated. From downloading the correct box set image (they are out there), creating the box set, and adding the movies meta into that folder. The important option to this is to add a box set option if i have more than X amount of movies in this collection. I set it to 2 movies. That way you dont have 5000 box set with only 1 movie in it. I was skeptical if i wanted to allow box sets to be automated at that time. But it turned out to be a time saver and pretty freaking awesome! That IS probably the one thing i miss most about my old solution.

Years and years… and still it isn’t implemented.

It seems obvious to me. When I see Movies I shouldn’t see ANY Star Wars / Bond / Hunger Games individual titles. I should see “Star Wars (7)”, “Bond (22)”, “Hunger Games (3)” and then click on those to see the titles inside.

Now… I can see how some (insane lol) people might want them all out there in the main view, so sure keep it as it is and have an option for (better) organization.

Filters is not the same thing. Filtering is for finding something, not for organization. Collections (as implemented) = filter.

Let’s PLEASE have real support for Boxed Sets!

XBMC/Kodi has been doing this, for a long time.

Please go to and Like this thread…

We need to consolidate all the requests under one thread so they can’t ignore it.

HA!

All that means is that you can be ignored in a more privileged, members only setting…

LOL You know I didn’t realize that was a Plex Pass Only section…I wonder what the vote tally would be if everyone could vote on it.
