Movie extras...how to handle?

If I have multiple mkv files, such as

  • Movie.mkv
  • Movie - Making of.mkv
  • Movie - Behind the costumes.mkv
  • Movie - Outtakes.mkv

How is best way to handle? Currently, they are setup in separate folders like separate movies. But what is the best way to handle?

Here are the rules:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220677-Local-Media-Assets-Movies

Put the Movie and the Extras in a folder named exactly like the Movie - according to the naming guidelines:

A Movie Library/
…The Movie (YEAR)/
…The Movie (YEAR).mkv
…The Making Of-behindthescenes.mkv
…Behind The Costumes-behindthescenes.mkv
…Outtakes-scene.mkv

You have several options for various ‘-tags’ - pick one that most closely matches the material you have.
You can also use separate sub-folders for your extras - explained at the link above, but mine are quickly set up like the example.

Didn’t work. Tried the formatting you had above as well as sub folders. Nothing shows up. Also tried moving folder out of plex, rescaning library, moving folder back, and rescanning again. Movie shows up but no extras.

Are you sure you set the LMA?
Click the link @JuiceWSA provided and scroll down to Enable “Local Media Assets”
After that, scroll down to Local Trailers and Extras which explains how to name extras and stuff.

I edited my example above - had a space before the ‘-tag’ and that would be wrong - after having looked again at the instructions… and some of my own local content (old age setting in).

By all means enable Local Media Assets in your Agent Lists - it does NOT have to be at the top (in fact it should be at the bottom of the lists) and if you use MP4/M4V files - make DAM SURE LMA is at the bottom of those Agent Lists Here:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents
Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata borking your ops this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom.

If you have another Version of this movie - DO NOT put it in the folder with the extras. If you have another Version of this movie - set the original movie and extras first - then add the second version OUTSIDE the folder with the extras.

Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you may need to write a new bundle for the show/movie so The Plex Dance® was invented:

(Note: Sounds to me like a half-assed-discount-knock-off-imitation of The Plex Dance® was attempted - There is ONLY ONE Plex Dance®…)

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie(and folder) from library
  2. rescan library files
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— scan library files, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance/Move LMA/etc
  6. replace corrected show/movie(and folder) into library
  7. rescan library files

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

Here’s one that’s working - so I know it works:

Please show all the file names in the folder where you have the main movie and the extras.

Please do also post the Plex XML info of this movie.

Last, please make screen shots of
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
as well as
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Did you install 3rd party metadata agents or scanners into Plex?
