Movie metadata

Is there a way to remove meta info on a movie mp4 file so when i add it to my collection it knows what to name it. i was able to use mp3tag to remove meta info from my tv shows and it found them perfectly

You can use mp3tag to remove tags from mp4 files.
It doesn’t matter if they’re tv shows or movies.

If the “mismatch” is stuck in Plex’s database, you might have to perform the
Plex Dance

Here is another method to avoid those embedded meta tags from getting too much attention:

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

i am doing movies to be clear
If i put them in to mp3tag they don’t show anything but if i put it in to plex it shows the movie name and YTS and plex doesn’t know what to name it

Are you judging only by the left area of mp3tag?
If so, take a look into the extended tag dialog:

You can also mark all mp4 files, then right-click on them and click ‘Remove Tag’
After you did that, I recommend to perform ‘Optimize MP4’ as well. (can take a long time, since sometimes the whole file will be read and written again.)
This optimizes the file for streaming, by placing all the metadata and header information at the beginning of the file. And Plex is a streaming server after all.

see its not in the meta but it has trouble finding it , if i take out the yts ag then it finds the movie

That’s because it cannot recognize the movie’s title from the file name.
It doesn’t follow the naming rules for movies.

This should work better: 12 Strong (2018) - 1080p [YTS.AG].mp4

(the content between angular brackets is supposed to get ignored by Plex. So I recommend you to put anything that doesn’t belong to the official title of the movie in there.)

Plex has occasionally trouble recognizing titles beginning with numbers. You can also try one of the alternate spellings of this movie title

i was just about to ask about the file name ok
 thank you

You have my curiosity what does optimizing the videos do?

Already mentioned it above.
