Hi, my Plex media center installation has all of a sudden started to play SOME movies in a small window overlaying the menu. Have never seen this happen before and I have made no changes the last months. This happens with some movies, not depending on format (both MKV:s and AVI:s). The problem is occurring on mac mini, mac book and windows 7 clients.
Im running the following set up:
PMS 0.9.5.2 on WHS as server
PMC 9.5.2 on Windows 7
PMC 9.5.2.1 on mac mini with Lion
PMC 9.5.2 on mac book with Lion
I have tried restarting the server, deleting the system and framework bundles on the server, updating the mac mini client from 9.5.2 to 9.5.2.1, but problem persists.
An odd though I got was that maby the server identifies the clients the wrong was and decodes for iPhone, iPad or iPod (has those clients as well), but then it would be valid for all movies. Another thought is that maby the movies that turns up in micro format has been played on those devices before and the ones that turn up OK has not, so the format that are sent to the client for some reason is for those devices on a per movie basis?
The movies seem to play fine at iPhone at least.
This problem is reeealy strange…
Interestingly, I saw the same thing for the first time yesterday - only with a few files.
You can toggle a playing video between “full-screen” and playing in the upper-left corner via the “Tab” key (at least in the Windows Client). What happens if you press “Tab” when the movie is playing in the corner? I assume that will fix it, though I don’t know what causes it.

If its a feature, it is a strange one. Will try it tomorrow and see what happens. Could it be an experimental feature that has been pushed out by accident? Now when I think anout it I think I saw a text next to the movie with “now playing” or something, at least on one client.
The TAB key worked and it obviosly was some kind of “global” setting on the client as other movies stopped playing in the small window after I used tab playing one of them. This makes me abit worried though, why would some movies suddely start to play in small windows on all my clients without me doing any changes? Can someone please shed some light on this?

I guess I’m not aware of any “Global” nature to the TAB key function. However, it is definitely an intentional “feature”, as mentioned in the keyboard mappings page here:
http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Keyboard
Specifically, it states:
*Tab - Toggles fullscreen modes (either visualisation or video playback) *
So, by toggling a playing video out of full-screen mode, you’re able to navigate the Plex menu system while the video is still playing. While I can’t say I’ve had a need for such a feature, I’m sure it’s useful in certain situations.
What I don’t know is why a video would start in the non-full screen mode (as you reported - and as I’ve seen on a few occasions). To me, that seems like some obscure bug, though it’s easy to fix with a quick press of the TAB key.

Same issue on Samsung Tab 3. I don’t have an external keyboard on my android, is there another way to get to that setting? Hard to hit Tab without a keyboard. Cant see how to trigger the virtual keyboard to pop up in player mode.
