Movie poster sources

I’ve been using curly brackets to ensure that my movies are matched using TMDB. However, I ran into one, The Return of Swamp Thing (1989), that isn’t fetching the “right” poster. Technically it’s sourcing the poster from TMDB like it should, but it’s the 3rd one from the posters page instead of the primary one. All my other movies use the primary poster.

I’m using the Plex Movie scanner and agent. The movie’s folder and the file itself are both named “The Return of Swamp Thing (1989) {tmdb-19142}”.

Since all my other movies use the primary poster, I feel like it’s not working. Does anyone have any ideas?

So the reason for this is most likely because the third one on the list for that movie is a higher quality version (2000x3000) than the primary one (1000x1500). Plex typical will use the highest quality version for its default.

I’d always recommend using local assets for artwork. Requires a bit of work but worth it in the end.

That makes sense. So, I guess it would only take the ranking into account if there was multiple same quality versions.

I still hope that’s not the reason though though lol. I’ve always liked their primary posters so I wouldn’t have thought to manually do them.

That’s my understanding anyhow but I’m certainly open to correction on that.
