I have a movie that was released in two parts, and was two separate parts on the disc. i merged them in plex and they both show up under the same poster as expected (under Get Info both files show), but only part 1 will play (and only part 1s runtime is shown). i have two other movies that were the same (both files show in Get Info), except both files play as expected (the play as if they were one longer file). when i split the two files apart, both show in the server and play independently as normal. how can i fix this?
It sounds like you are doing the wrong thing.

Split and merging files is not meant for movies that are split across multiple files, that is for having multiple copies of the same movies (could be different editions or different qualities) and either not wanting them to be together or wanting them to e together.

i have figured out the problem. I simply didnt match the file names exactly
