Movie stops playing partway through

Server Version#: 1.18.3.2156
Player Version#: 6.4 Build 9

So, I have run in to a problem with 1080p files where after being ripped, only part of the file plays. What will happen is that it will get to a certain point, and then just go back to the Plex homescreen. If I fast forward, I can get past that point, and it will play. It’s seeming to only be a problem on the Roku TV I have from TCL. Phones are OK, and since my PCs will all play back the files on their own, they’re fine that way without the Plex player. Curious if anyone else has seen this? Also, if I try to restart the file from where it dropped off, it gets to 75% loaded and stops.

We’re seeing a similar issue as of this morning: the Plex app on Roku crashes/tanks after exactly 5 minutes of video playback and returns to the home screen. Videos play fine on other clients and restarting the Roku doesn’t fix the issue. Videos also restart properly and continue playing on Roku as soon as you re-enter the channel. Very weird; platform has been rock-solid until now.

I am also seeing every 5 minute crashes starting this morning on a roku ultra.

OMG so it’s not only me? I’m watching HEVC files on my Roku ultra that have played perfectly fine in the past, and now, after a couple of minutes to up to five min’s it crashes and goes back to Roku ultra home screen, not the plex home screen (for me)

Yep! Exactly the same issue. We’re running a first-gen ultra (4660X)

Ours is the same – it always returns to the Roku home screen – but for us the crashes are consistently at 5 min intervals.

ALLCON – it looks like there is a v6.4b10 build of the Roku channel available if you have Plex Pass. I’ve signed up for the beta channel and will report back as soon as we get it installed and tested. Stay tuned…

I am having the same issue on Fire TV. Watched two movies (in my library), in the last two days and it randomly will stop and plex will revert back to the home screen. Very frustrating. Everything is updated to latest version.

i have same issue , is this not fixed yet?

I had totally forgotten about this. Everything I run is up to date. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is doing this at 1’30" in to the file. Plays fine everywhere else. So, no, this isn’t fixed at all.

Having this same issue with shows…have a bunch of movies but haven’t watched any since this started happening. Would be nice to know if Plex support knows about this.

So backhausold, what happened? Did the new build fix it?

Thanks for keeping me accountable!!

It actually resolved before I could test the beta channel. I haven’t had an issue since.

Okay, thanks
Mine bounces back to the Home screen after about 3 or 4 minutes. It used to do that after 30 minutes exactly, but now it’s like 3 minutes. Thirty minutes was irritating, but ok – I could go back in and resume movie. But at 3 minutes Plex is useless to me! I run a Plex server on a Freenas system and am using the Roku Streaming Stick plugged into HDMI port.
I have no idea if it is a Plex server issue incompatible with Roku, or a Roku issue. I have the latest Freenas Plex plugin. Plex works fine on my Android phone, or the PC.
Rats!

Well, I have now determined that this above IS a Roku issue, NOT a Plex issue! Well, basically because any video streamed on my Roku stick can only play 3 minutes exactly. Duh.
Then it bounces back to the Home screen just as if I pushed the Home button.
Doesn’t matter whether it is YouTube, any VLOG/Podcast or any TV Channel or Movie Channel !
Seems the Roku firmware update has boogered my stick. :weary:

Same thing happens in emby, so it’s the file not the app
Also out of frame playback on certain rips
I had high hopes to integrate roku only because spectrum had allowed them to load their streaming tv app along with apple but forbidden on Android TV which really screws with my setup which was all based on Nvidia Shields
Wanting to ditch their box charges as I have seven boxes
And it was going to be a perfect alternative but that’s not happening
I come late to this conversation but as of October 1 I’m still having the same problem

I’m having this same exact problem on my Roku TCL TV as well.
Thought it was only 4K files, but now the problem has ‘infected’ my Blu-Ray rips.

I’m updated to the current version: Version 1.20.3.3437

Win10 (current)
Lenovo y545
24gb RAM
