Movie & TV Tab

How to enable Movie & TV tab on the Chrome browser web app? I noticed I have it on iOS app, but not on the web app.

iOS app

Web app

use @ Plex Web

Whats the point of the desktop apps if y’all just gonna tell us to use the browser?

First Plex Media Server and/or/with Plex Media Player stutters movies, then movies and shows, now Plex desktop can’t/won’t do TV mode or show Movies & TV. I’m sorry but inconsistencies in UI for streaming is going to kill Plex or really lessen the impact y’all want to make now that everyone and their dog is into streaming ON apps.

I use the web browser over the desktop app because the browser loads much faster than the web app.

The OP specifically asked for how to access the video on demand solution in his browser.
Back when this was posted, the version of Plex Web installed on a fully updated server did not (yet) support this feature.
Should now be included in the latest beta of the regular Plex Media Server as well (as of version 1.18.6)

As for the desktop players… as stated in the related support article and blog entry:
Plex is working to bring this feature to other apps soon.

not quite sure what or why you seem frustrated…

no one was saying use plex web instead of ios, or any other desktop app (no desktop apps were even mentioned).

the OP was comparing the IOS to the web app, but apparently was using the local server instead of the hosted plex web app. (the local pms web is not updated as often as plex web)

a lot people use the web browser over desktop because they are accessing plex from work or some other place that they are not allowed to install apps, or perhaps they are not even aware of plex desktop apps.

deceduc may use the web browser because it loads faster, but web browsers suck as media players, and require a lot more transcoding on the server, when a desktop app would be more likely to direct play something.

finally, while the pace of making the UI fairly consistent may be slow, it is obvious that is the direction they are moving, and no doubt all the apps will have movies/tv eventually.

as to if/when the new plex windows app will get the old PMP “TV” mdoe, remains to be seen.

They are not getting rid of PMP, so “TV” mode will remain available on that for the forseeable future.

I started using Plex longer before I had a stroke but for the past year I could not figure out why I could not longer use the directional keys on Plex app as I could before. I rolled back the server and player to try and find a word around. I found https://www.videohelp.com/software/Plex/old-versions and https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/public-testing/ to help me find old versions that would allow me to still use TV mode.

Movies started to stutter but I found if I minimize the player before the movie starts then there is no sturttering. But then previews stopped showing 5 and then it was just Frozen II that would show and the Roku Plex app was no longer picking up the server so I figured I’d try from the beginning I went to https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ to get the server and player again so I could start all over. (It has been a very tiring year) This time I noticed that the Apps & Devices page does not download the player nor is there any information on the player. I HAD SPENT OVER A YEAR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG! When I notified Plex that there was an issue that Plex rather than Plex Media Player was downloading for Mac and all the issues I had had over the last year trying but failing to understand what happened all I got was a “yeah we know” like what I went through after having a stroke and not understanding was my fault. I even started to think maybe it was…

No, take a look at the site from the stand point of someone who does not have the tech ability or has lost the ability to figure out Plex’s website and apps. From the “lacking” My Account (a drop down? really, that’s all?); Downloads, does not have the media player nor the option, nor tell you the difference in Plex App (which really is just a browser) and Plex Media Player for those who have had the player for years or would like the consistency in UI from device to device; Forums which could have a clearer “your forum activity”. For a tech company that wants to get into more streaming revenue then a lot needs overhaul, starting with attitudes towrds those they want revenue from.
