Movie Volumes not separated

Hi,
I have two movies, vol 1 and vol 2, and they show up as one movie with a “2” in the upper corner. I know how to get it to play the one I want but it’s complicated for my household and would like it to display correctly…as two different movies in the menu.

I tried to use VLC to change metadata but a) that didn’t work…didn’t save the changes and b) the metadata was already different as far as the name goes so not sure why…

First post here but been using Plex for several years. Thanks for any help.

You know…I thought I did that but I went back and followed it EXACTLY and it worked.

Oops…that did not work quite right. Now I have two separate iterations of the same movie. This is Guardians of the Galaxy. Now I have two movies showing up but they both the first movie. I thought it was just the poster when I posted before but when in to change it and realized both movies in the menu are the same.

Any ideas?

Let’s start over:
Do you want

  • the two files look and play like one long movie
  • the two files look like 2 movies, so your users can easily pick which part to watch

The latter is what is described in the above link.

The former requires a certain way to name the files, which is described in here:

If the 2 parts are coded exactly the same way, you can also try to merge them into one common file. Which is what I would try to do, since it is the cleanest solution:
