Added The Grinch (2018) and Plex will not add it to my movies list or section could someone help me or explain why I have tried renaming it to just The Grinch and also added the (2018) to movie file and folder but nothing is working.
You might have to dance: The Plex Dance

I did the Plex Dance also but nothing
Have you explored my second link above?
Als, please add some detail about your setup. Server version, plattform, where are media stored etc.
Maybe Plex did add the movie but got confused by the garbage metadata in the file(assuming MP4 file here!!) and merged it to an existing movie as a duplicate.
I have found that it does mix up the meta data from time to time. I would look for duplicates. On the related note is there an easy way to see all the movies with duplicates ?
Well. You can try a app I made a while back.
Duplicate Movie Finder for Plex - Windows Edition
My personal experience to resolve that issue with Grinch movies is add the year to the movie and folder for the newest one so folder should say Grinch (2018) and so should movie. And if Plex combines them there is an option to separate them by hovering mouse cursor over the pic and clicking on the 3 dots and choose separate files.
From the Plex Web Client:

Go into your Movie library, Click on “All” at the top and the pulldown includes Duplicates. If you have duplicates only they will show up. Then you can click the Pencil to get the Edit window. Click Info on the left and it will show the files that it has merged into that entry.
Very handy.
Thank you @NewPlaza I would try it out but I would have to run windows
sorry Unix guy here
Thank you @CWallace I had less duplicates in my library than I thought. Most of them are caused by running Plex and iTunes ( to support older Apple TVs - gen 2 no Plex app).
For anyone else that might have this challenge
- Turn off “let iTunes manage my library”
- Name files following the Plex naming convention
- Embed the meta data you want iTunes to see in the files
Not fun but works.
