Movies in collections still shown in library

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: 4.141.0

Hi Plex community,
I hope this is a simple question and I used the correct category:

I used a collection tag to organize a bunch of movies in collections which worked immediatelly.
But I was hoping the movies would disappear from the library and only show up in the collection, which they didn’t.
I found a documented option in the advanced library settings which gives three options (translated from german to english):

  1. Show collections but hide the elements
  2. Hide elements which are in a collection
  3. Show collections and elements

I tried both, 1) & 2) (where is the difference? they seem to describe the same thing? ), but did not see a change in the library: still I would see both, collections and it’s elements.

Is there a way to display movies from collections only in the collection entry?

Thanks, appreciate your support

First since you translated from German to English, let me give you the actual English wording in case there was a mistake from the translation:

  1. Hide collections but show their items
  2. Hide items which are in collections
  3. Show collections and their items

Just for context for the rest of my post, my library is defaulted to number 2 above.

There is a caveat that I am not sure is in the documentation.

If a movie is in more than 1 collection, then that movie will still show in the library if one of those collections is set to “Show collections and their item”.

As an example, I have 2 collections, “AFI Top 100” and “Jaws” which both contain the 1975 movie Jaws. The “AFI Top 100” collection contains all the movies from that list and is set to “Show collections and their item”. The “Jaws” collection contains all 4 Jaws movies and uses the library default. The movie Jaws shows up in my library right next to the “Jaws” collection because it exists in both collections and their is no way in Plex to tell the movie which collection setting wins (would probably make sense to have the library default win and then have an option to select which setting would win if you one does not actually want the library default to win, but that is a separate issue).

So with that additional information, did you happen to have something similar to that? Are all the movies still showing or just certain ones.

One more thing I just thought about, and not sure if it applies to this case but just want to mention it. When you are on the “Library” tab in your library, collections I believe collections will only show when you have the library sorted by “Title”. Any other sorting method will show all the movies (and I think, but am not certain) but not the collections.

Thank you (again) for your suport shark2k.

It seems there is a translation error in the options and 1) is translated erroneous.

I have now tried again options 1) and 2) and 2) did the job, AFTER doing a forced reload in the browser using Ctrl+F5 (I found that hint after some browsing on a reddit page).

Now it’s working as expected
