Im using an old Dell optiplex as my server. its been working fine for a year until this weekend. My dad texted me and said the server was down. i logged in on my phone and everything was there so i figured it was fine. He texted me again and said it was still down. I can access my Library from any device (Phone, Xbox, PC, Roku) but nothing will load. I updated the server Friday night and didn’t check to make sure it was working. Steps ive tried:
-reboot server
-disconnect and reconnect the network
-check network devices for driver updates
-uninstall and reinstall Plex media server
Im still pretty new at this so any guidance what to do next would be much appreciated.
Update before post: Dad texted again and said he can only watch the older movies on the server, but nothing i have recently added. i have confirmed this myself.
Update: i have been able to determine that only HD videos will play (anything i added from a blu-ray) anything lower quality from a DVD will not load or play
I am seeing a LOT of errors similar to: Dec 16, 2024 16:57:21.705 [4048] ERROR - [Req#1b9129/Transcode/77833b9b-2945-436c-9440-4e288706fe4f-238/ca9cb8df-a22f-49b6-bec8-e3a9a26f368a] [mpeg2video @ 0000024f2538a740] hardware accelerator failed to decode picture Dec 16, 2024 16:57:21.705 [4048] ERROR - [Req#1b912a/Transcode/77833b9b-2945-436c-9440-4e288706fe4f-238/ca9cb8df-a22f-49b6-bec8-e3a9a26f368a] Error while decoding stream #0:0: Operation not permitted
Can you stop Plex and then rename %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Codecs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Codecs.old Then restart plex
That error is FLOODing your logs. Can you go to server settings => Transcoder and disable Use hardware acceleration when available then restart the server and see if that does anything?
