I just recently had to reinstall Windows on my PC and after everything was finished and installed Plex Server let it scan then spent the entire day re-editing my Movies/TV Shows and adding Collections. I find after awhile once Plex server refreshes itself I find one or two movies outside its collection Like X-Men Collection I’ll find two movies outside and I know I’ve added them to it or sometimes I’ll find all the movies outside the Collection and the Collection is there with the artwork but with zero items so I have to add them in again… This is getting pretty frustrating because I have to do this occasionally. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how to fix this? please, your advise will be appreciated Thank you.
Are your media stored outside of the plex server computer?
If so:
Settings - Server - Library - ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’ <-- DISABLE
Yeah, I keep most of my movies on an external drive, I’ll give your option a try thanks!
Why should you not empty the trash? I ask because I’m trying to understand “plexs” definition of Trash. I don’t like leaving trash around because it takes up space, and in real live it can really stink.
The thing with external or networked storage: it can happen that a file gets ‘inaccessible’ to plex server.
Either because the USB/ethernet wire is yanked out or
because some external drives or NAS devices spin down the platters of the hard rives and they take too long to spin them back up when a file is requested.
Any file that is marked as ‘unavailable’ gets removed from the library when you empty the trash. Which means it loses all the metadata associated with it. The info, in which ‘collection’ the items is too.
Next time, when the disk is accessible again, the video might get re-added to the library. Maybe even without you noticing it.
You only notice that all metadata art reset to the defaults.
thanks it seemed to have worked, I’ve had empty trash enabled before and it never gave me this problem, I had to re-rip some of my tvshows and movies because some reason I didn’t see them on plex so went to my ex-drive and some fo them was missing or some had i.e.
“.Stranger Things or Stranger Things.” and the period made the folders invisible…
And when the crap will TVDB begin working again it’s been a year and a half already! lol
if anyone is having problems with TVDB just use TMDB it just works…
