I can’t say how I appreciate the time you are all taking to try to help me. Nibbles, I checked. There is nothing under the PerryBox [Synology] drop down menu except that the Synology is “nearby” (like 6 feet). The Mac PMS is not listed. It IS listed (from 3 years ago) in the list of authorized devices, and there is another listing of the PMS on the Synology. So both are listed as Authorized devices. I looked at Privacy & Security > Local Network and PMS is listed there. But I still can’t see it. I only see the Synology version.
If I’m understanding correctly, in Authorized Devices, sorted for servers (https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms), you have three listings:
- Syno PMS (PerryBox) - current
- Syno PMS (PerryBox?) - old
- Mac PMS - 3 years old
Definitely remove the old Syno PMS listing. There is no reason for it to exist.
I’m guessing the PMS version for Mac PMS is also way out of date as well, correct?
TBH, I’m stumped. Mac PMS says it is claimed, but it is not listed in Authorized Devices.
This is rather brute force, but it should work. It will unclaim then reclaim Mac PMS. If anyone has a better idea, please chime in.
- Stop Plex Media Server on the Synology.
- Quit Mac PMS
- Finder Go Menu → Go to Folder. Enter
~/Library/Preferences/. - Rename
com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plisttocom.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist.old(the plist file is the Mac equivalent of preferences.xml on the Synology). - Delete Mac PMS from Authorized Devices.
Mac PMS is now unclaimed and removed from your Plex account.
- Reboot the Mac and login.
- If PMS did not start automatically (icon in menu bar), then start it manually.
- Click on the Plex menu bar icon and choose Open Plex… from the drop down menu.
- Login to Plex.
- Skip setting up libraries, remote access, etc. if prompted to do so.
- Select the wrench icon and see if you can reach server settings and claim the server.
If that works (i.e. Mac PMS is claimed):
- Login to the Syno and start Syno PMS. Give it a couple of minutes to fully start.
- Quit the browser (close all windows).
- Relaunch the browser and go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/.
- You should be able to login, see both servers listed in Authorized Devices, and reach server settings for both of them.
I have to step away for a bit. I’ll check back later this evening.
Your brute force steps worked. I can now see both servers, both servers are now listed in Authorized Devices, and I can see both listed in the Wrench icon (drop down menu). I haven’t bothered to finish setting up the server on my Mac. For today, it’s enough to know it works. Give yourself 3 or 4 gold stars for all your effort. Gold stars to the others who helped me, too. You are great guys.
Glad you have things working.
When you’re ready, you can copy the Plex Data Folder files from the Synology to the Mac.
It looks like a lot of work, but remember it is really just a big file copy with a few extra steps.
