Issue: can’t get plex to read metadata for original publication date from mp4 personal videos
Building my collection of music videos (purchased and youtube downloads).
Keeping them in a “global music videos” section, in artist-specific folders.
This allows the music videos to be accessible from the artist pages of my music library.
The music library integration is working fine.
However, I’m also using the same music video files and organizing them in a separate plex Music Videos library, which is in addition to the music library. Type = Home Video, agent = Personal Media.
This allows features such as shuffle play for just the videos.
When building the posters and file info for the library, plex continues to pull the media date from the OS file system date (date file modified) rather than the original publication date.
The MP4 files are all tagged with the original publication date, but I can’t get plex to read those.
Example, download a video from youtube on 2015-12-23. The video was originally published in 2001.
Tags for “year” and “original year” are set as 2001-01-01.
Put in an artist folder, name it as -.mp4.
When the scanner reads the file, it builds the plex data from the 2015-12-23 file date, rather than the metadata tag.
In the library, the video appears sorted with the 2015 publication date, rather than the 2001 original date.
The date can be manually edited in plex, but this is all lost if the plex library is refreshed, moved or needs to be rebuilt.
Is there a way to get plex to read the mp4 metadata for original publication date in personal video files.
