@weidnerj, I have tried the multiple PMS work around. Besides being a lot of additional work, the resulting user experience is less that ideal. 1. You have to worry about which “Live TV & DVR” you are connected to when viewing. 2. The DVR cannot take advantage of all possible program sources for a recording.
Perhaps most troubling in my experience with this, using HDHR tunners on both instances, stopping a program on one DVR will kill the programs on both DVRs. I think the fault lies with Plex because it only happens when Plex is the viewer in both cases. Viewing programs on both tuners, but with only the first being Plex, stopping the second (VLC in this case) has no impact on the first.
Even if it all worked, the real solution is the option of different EPGs on different tuners, It also happens to support a completely reasonable use case - different tuners for different sources; Antenna, Cable, Satellite, OTA Region, etc…
This is really one of those things the Plex should have made a high priority as soon as Silicon Dust presented the idea of internet feeds along side the analog tuner. Plex was the only big name that couldn’t accommodate it properly because they couldn’t mix and match guide listings.
Since then other concepts like TV Everywhere has come out. which should make it pretty obvious for anyone paying attention that mixing and matching providers is going to be a big thing in the future.
This request is three years old and even the Silicon Dust experiment is two years old, but still no improvements from Plex in this area. This and the crappy EPG data during the last year is the main reason I’m no longer a Plex Pass subscriber after 4+ years.
multiple tuners is not the issue for me im a tv plant engineer after spending 700 on multiple antennas and amps combiners i then find out that even thoe my hd home run can see 80 channels only the ones in my local area can be displayed… because i’m not able to assign a channel name to them even if you cant have 2 epgs pleas allow us to include a “unknown” channel to be placed in the guide.
This work around is working perfect ! Now has anyone figured out either how to color code live TV DVR so we can differentiate between the two or possibly edit the actual text name?
Any movement on this at all? Talked my dad into moving to Plex - he has a mix of OTA tuner and cable card tuner. Doesn’t seem to be a good way to have the guide which is appropriate for both :(.
+1 on this for me. Or maybe I should say +3 on it. I may be a bit of a unique location, but I’m on the fringes of 3 television markets. My plan was to have one antenna pointed to each market city, then setup at least one HDHomeRun device for each city. I didn’t realize at the time that you had to choose only one market.
With over five hundred and sixty votes and over 3 years of requesting, I just want to keep this going. Here’s to another three years with no response by Plex. On this do-it-yourself or figure it out yourself platform😔. The mod still works but it’s a pain in the butt.
Even the do-it-yourself version is buggy when you have the same shows on 2 different EPGs. Determining which tuner it uses is pretty much a coin-flip. The selectable tuners don’t show all tuners, and sometimes it uses a tuner that was never on the list anyways.
I had been happily watching with my OTA Quatro (4 tuners) and then SiliconDust had to go and re-release the Prime 3(Cable card). the OTA had been working for me, but now I have more channels and less tuners. While needing more than three may not be a frequent occurrence, it does happen.
I would like to be able to access both so that if I am using all three in the Prime any OTA shows could slide over to the Quatro and record from there giving the Prime3 tuners priority for the cable only channels.
Would also be very helpful for those living in locations that have access to overlapping OTA broadcasts from diff cities and therefore different/incompatible channel lineups
I am connecting both HDHomerun Qurdro (OTA) and HDHomerun Prime (Cable) to Plex. I used the 2 tabs hack to generate two LiveTV and DVR tabs. Prior to the EPG switch, I was able to select either OTA channel or Cable channel to record a program. As suggested by Plex, I deleted my DVRs and recreated the DVRs using 2 tabs a week ago. Now, I can only select OTA channel to record a program if the program is available in both. Can anyone suggest a way to allow both OTA and Cable channels be selected for DVR recording?
