Installed 1.16.1.1246 (Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS) and have been having nothing but problems with live TV and DVR. The fact that we are essentially being forced to upgrade (with a whopping 10 days to get everything working from this pre-beta state) to continue usage from something that generally worked to something that is so far pretty horrible is ridiculous.
List of issues so far:
Actors and other details are missing from EPG.
Every single airing is showing as SD instead of HD in Guide and Recordings.
All episodes have the same generic description instead of descriptions based on the individual episodes.
Many airings are being listed as NEW when they in fact are not (causing way too many recordings to be scheduled).
Yes, there were many missing channels from my lineup, but I posted about that earlier, and I think itās being corrected, so at least thereās that.
The generic descriptions donāt bother me much, as it seems like that was pretty common for programs before as well. However, I notice way too many shows that have the episode number as YEAR - E01. Makes me wonder how Plex would handle this when recording multiple episodes. I suppose itās not a big deal for older programs, but the episode of 20/20 this Friday night has an episode number of 2019 - E01. What if next weekās episode is the same? Will it not record?
It looks like there are still plenty of issues to resolve, but I trust theyāll get it figured out.
It was no where near ācommonā as you say. Each episode typically had the proper description for that particular airing. Now itās just a generic blurb about the show. Completely unacceptable. Iāll bet next theyāll want to offer a subscription service to get the detailed guide data back.
And why would you trust them when playing time shifted TV is still not working after more than a year. I see youāre cheerleading again
Youāre right. I got to looking through the guide and more programs before just have the generic show description. I usually ran into the issue for shows like 20/20 and Dateline.
And yes, time shifting seems to be broken again (it did work for a time, as I had no issues for a bit). Hopefully that is addressed soon. Not being able to start an active recording from the beginning is also a pain.
You can call it cheerleading if you want, but I tend to try and stay positive. Iāve reported and had issues fixed in the past, so, I have no doubt that other issues are also being worked on, and hopefully theyāll be fixed soon.
Yep, this is exactly what I was afraid would happen. And when they do record, how exactly will Plex handle that. Methinks it will probably assume itās already been recorded?
Just did the update to 1.16.1.1246 on ubuntu tonight as well, and when I type in my postal code, nothing comes up. Itās says itās looking for a guide but simply stays at 0%. Iām in Welland, Ontario Canada ⦠so i would hope that there should be guide data available.
In the mean time iām going back to using zap2xml to get my guide data.
It doesnāt āappear to be broken againā. Itās never reliably worked and the paper trail proves it.
Now add that weāre back at tuning failures and extended wait times if it does tune ala December of '18 along with all the other crap recently broken AGAIN and itās a mess. Iām positive too. Positive I wasted time and money on a product that has never worked being developed by people who donāt understand what live TV/DVR should be and continually lied to by āPLEXā. Iāve still got one user who doesnāt want to switch to EMBY but since that one person is my wife I keep it running. Fortunately tonight even she asked why these people canāt fix things.
They promised a list of items being worked back in the December uproar, never happened.
Go look at that thread I linked earlier and locate the VERY FEW responses from PLEX. Basically nothing.
When I upgraded my windows box to 1.16.1x, I noticed that they completely wiped out settings around commercial detection, post processing script, etc. Iād encourage anyone having issues to check their settings (not excusing that the settings werenāt preserved)ā¦
What a disaster 1.16.1.1246 is. I installed this on my server following the email I received from Plex on the upcoming deadline and REALLY wish I would not have. It completely hosed my DVR. I attempted to follow their guidance on rescanning and fixing my recordings, but that was bust. I deleted my shows set to record and tried re-establishing them telling the DVR to only grab new episodes, but instead, it is still trying to record every episode scheduled to air regardless of if it is new old.
Iām having all of those issues . All airings showing as SD is a PITA.
Iām going to have to restrict recordings to certain channels until that is fixed. And many shows donāt even have proper season and episode numbers, such as The Avengers and The Saint. They just have a year and an incorrect episode number.
I donāt see all of these issues being fixed by the end of the month. I need to re-evaluate using zap2xml to get my EPG from zap2it or TVGuide.
Updated and Installed 1.16.1.1246 (Mac OS 10.13.6) and the DVR settings disappeared being unable to locate the DVR device and killed off the alternative EPG setup.
Due to the Plex decision to no longer provide a local EPG (Australia), and pointing members to a 3rd party monthly subscription provider, we have had to locate alternatives freEPG.tv.
Have rolled back to Version 1.16.0.1226 where the device is visible & manageable allow the free EPG to be used again.
Sure would be nice to be able to see what the program episode was while scrolling in the guide. You know, like it used to work??? I already know what the program is!
Though Iām not experiencing the āyear - episodeā issue like some state,
EDIT - Ok - I DO have that issue on several shows.
Itās times like this that Iām glad I never used Plex to replace my TiVo subscription.
I hoped to years ago when Plex announced DVR, and theyāve never fully quite been up to snuff.
I am seeing all episodes in SD, and I do hate that I no longer see what a specific episode is about.
Iām pretty sure 20/20 used to give me exact episode details.
Now all I get is this
A durable newsmagazine mixing investigative pieces with human-interest and celebrity features thatās ABCās oldest prime-time series despite its notoriously rocky premiere. (Hosts Robert Hughes and Harold Hayes lasted only that one show.)"
Plex seems to be going cheap as they go corporate. The ālifetimeā plex pass currently has lost so much value since when I first got it in my opinion, I no longer wish Iād purchased it, and am afraid of the āimprovementsā Plex has been advertising for years now.
@JamminR - For the issue with all shows being SD, you can use the advanced settings and lock a recording rule to the HD channel. This will force an HD recording. According to the response from Plex, itās in the new EPG datastream. FWIW, theyāre working on it. See: HD recording scheduling fail with 1.16.1.1246
What does it take to get an actual employee of some sort to chime in and get this mess fixed?
Iām still experiencing most of the issues that have been there since the initial switch. Iāve ended up switching to providing XMLTV guide data from schedules direct but even that isnāt without itās own issues since Plex just eats memory refreshing the guide data and never lets it go so I have to restart it every day or two anyway.
I got all those and more keep coming with every release. I think I can safely say that I never used another software with as much regression issues as Plex. Not to mention obvious low hanging/easy to fix issues that never seen to get attention (looking at you iOS/tvOS)
I cant even get through the setup of my HDHomerun device. It finds and scans channels, recommends a guide after I put in my zip code, but just spins after that. I assume its trying to match up the programming and download the guide but it never finishes. I let it run for 8hrs and still nothingā¦any suggestions?
