I’m just hitting barrier after barrier with plex. Is there anybody out there that I can discuss my issues to and fix them. I would love to find an alternative but will not run everything how I want to, Plex covers everything I want etc, but it’s just issue after issue. So if anyone from Plex or an expert for Plex can open a chat with me so I can explain the barriers etc. I’ve tried following the Plex articles and still not fixing the issues I have. So if anyone is out there to help that would be great! Thanks
just to add to this my plex just keeps randomly going offline and cannot figure out why, when i access my cloud everything is fine but plex shows offline and im now rebooting my cloud everyday at the mo, so its just adding to multiple issues and slowly now im just giving up and just wait for something else to come along that better and better support from plex rather than relying on community to resolve issues with plex, whic in my opinion plex should be fixing.
That is what this forum is for. People here will help with the issues you are having if they can. I suggest you post your problems and see if anyone can help.
Thanks for the replies. The reason i wanted to speak to someone is that its like back in the 90s waiting for a reply by email and i hate typing out loads of stuff id rather just speak to someone. But this is my only option…
TV shows is really messed up, when i add any TV shows it doesn’t show up. I’ve follwed the guidence several times and it still just behaves in the same way. If i follow the plex dance option and there is no other TV series in said folder, it will then pick up just that single TV show, so when i put back the other TV shows it will either merge multiple TV shows into 1 tv series or not show up at all. It also shows up with random TV shows that dont even exist in any of my folders and then when you click on the random tv series it will be a film!? e.g. Apollo 13. It seems to pick up random films with numbers in and there is no fix for this from my research.
Remote Access just does not work. I can enable it and it will play a film for as long as i dont skip or pause. i’ve set-up a port forward and still does not work. When i log onto plex it will be in green and then after a few seconds it will say i dont have access. when i access from different systems/web browsers to plex it will say im indirectly connected to plex but some of my other browsers off a different system it wont say this? I do have my own mesh network and i think this is part of the issue but this might be a quick fix or you need to be an IT expert which im not.
I’ve got to a point now i spend so mch time trying to fix these issues and faffing around by following the guidence and still at square one. I’ve briefly looked at jellyfin but i really dont want to learn a new program and it does not link to MY CLOUD storage which has plex built into it.
I do think plex needs to do more to fix these issues, after following there guidence and still not working just does not make sense. Having to type out the issues to experts and helpfull people in simlar scenarios and wait for reply is just backwards if you want user rentention. Not everyone is an expert, but has knowledge to fix most less complex issues, so if i was plex i would want to make these issues easy fixes or have online chat support or over the phone.
Sorry for the rant, its crazy i’ve had plex for years adding films with no major issues, i used to have all my films running from an external drive but didnt want my pc on all the time so i got a my cloud storage as it has the plex built in to solve the that issuebut seems to have created other issues :(.
Show us your naming convention for your files. Movies seem to be working correctly, so what have you done different in how you organize your movies from tv shows?
So long as you have your folder structure set up correctly, Plex just works
TV: ← Library configured in Plex
TV Show:
Season 1:
TV Show.S01E01.Name of episode.mkv
That should be all it takes.
Describe your network setup, what sort of router are you using? A port forward and static IP on the server should be enough to get remote access working.
Beginning with Plex Media Server version 1.1.0 and newer, it is simple to quickly gather your server logs.
Go to Settings > Manage > Troubleshooting in Plex Web App
Click the Download Logs button
Save the resulting zip file
You can now share the zip file to help investigate an issue you’re experiencing (for instance, by attaching the zip file to a forum post you make about the issue). (( Drag and Drop in a reply here!))
With that we can see if you are:
Following the Naming Guides for TV and Movies
Have agent issues
Have Networking issues
#1 sounds like your folder/file naming is a hot mess. Plex has become more picky over time to folder structure and file naming. Here’s an example of mine (I don’t have any or the problems you speak of.)
Once you have folder and file name sorted out according to The Guide. Go to Plex and click the 3 dots next to TV library > Manage Library > Edit. Under General make sure the “library type” is set to “TV Shows”. Under “Add folders” make sure you only have your “TV” folder listed there. Under “Advanced” this is how I have mine setup and it works for me.
As for #2 can you go to https://canyouseeme.org/ and verify that port 32400 (or whatever port you’re using for Plex) is open? If you don’t have that remote access won’t work at all.
This was a really helpfull. i’ve managed to fix issue with TV Shows. My Cloud was auto set-up and was pointing to all the folders on the drive.
The issue trying to fix remote play is going to be a complex issue and i think im just going to give up on the dream. I cant use the site can you see me as you cant edit the ip address as its a MY Cloud device that i have connected to my mesh network. I’m just spending too much time on this so thank you again, really helped on the tv shows :).
The site grabs your public IP address that is issued by your ISP. It doesn’t care about the address of your my cloud. For Plex or anything outside your network to be able to work it needs to be able to access the port on your public IP. You don’t edit the IP on canyouseeme is what I’m saying. How have you setup your port forwarding (with screenshots preferably please.) Post the make and model of your router and we may be able to help you. You might even be behind cg-nat and your port forwarding won’t matter.
Thanks for the reply. I think i may need to plug My Cloud device directly into the ISP router and not my mesh router. I feel like i need to know more about networking to try and fix the Double Nat issue, on my cloud web access it shows its on a relay connection and not direct so the easy solution on WD webisite is to connect directly to isp router but not sure how that will effect me accessing content after that as everything is set-up on my mesh wifi. Thanks, matt
Most ISP modems are both modem and routers, you can put the modem into bridge mode and then let your router take over. Sorry by previous post wasnt clear about that.
