I have two plex servers running in my house and I just recently updated both of them. After the update, it will only allow one server to show at a time. I will force close one and restart it and it will appear, but once I do that to the other it seems to kick out the other server and replace it on all devices. I have had both servers running for about a year and have never had this issue.
How does this happen? Each server is running on a different machine and has been running fine over the last year. They have different names and were created separately from each other.
One is runnng on a windows machine and the other is running on an UnRaid Server.
what he is describing is when the advanced settings are copied between servers whih most folks do when they are moving an install from one computer to a new one and want it to be the same server. The machine IDs are in that file (or registry on windows). If two servers have same ID then when launched it will update the info at Plex.tv with the info from the last server that launched because it thinks it is the same server.
only other possibility I can think of is if both are using the same external/public port in the Manually specify public port field in each (and router fowarding). Router can’t forward the same port to different machine so access may be lost from one as the other launches. need separate port forwarding rules for each pointing to different external ports. One can be 32400 and the other 32401 for example
@BigWheel Thank you for the clarification on this, I’m thinking it may be a port issue. I set each machine up separately a few years apart and the issue does take place when I restart the second server the first server disappears. I’ll look into setting up separate ports.
