I currently have 2 Plex Servers running, 1 for kids stuff (KidsServer), one…not so much kids stuff (ParentsServer).
Currently I have KidsServer running 24/7 on my LAN, and only start up ParentsServer when we want to watch something. I am about to take the plunge and go Plex Pass, and would like to know if the following is possible, and if so, how.
Have both KidServer and ParentsServer running 24/7
Create multiple user accounts, kid1, kid2, parent1, parent2, etc.
Have KidsServer available to all users
Have ParentsServer available only to parent accounts
Prevent ParentsServer from even being visible to anyone by parents
Use both in conjunction with PlexConnect & AppleTV, but somehow hide ParentsServer…?
In theory you can run all your media on 1 server and use Managed Users to give access to different users – each with their own user (or one for Kids / Parents) and libraries visible to each as per your settings.
Managed Users will also enable you to actually share libraries but restrict videos by age restriction or a custom label you add to your videos (include only videos that are PG / exclude R rated movies; include only videos labelled as For My Kids or exclude those not supposed to be visible to them with a label absolutely not for you!). Long story short…yes, you can do this.
however keeping up your multiple servers might make it a little more complicated as you not only have to switch users but have to also switch servers…

OK. I did see a little bit about this. 1 aspect about the 2 servers I forgot to mention is that one of them is running on my laptop, which I take with me when I travel for work. This was one of the main reasons I went with 2, along with the current model for separation of media.
as stated above… it’ll work but you have to actively switch users and servers – also you cannot really hide it entirely unless you run both servers under an entirely different account which will require a complete logout/re-activation every time you want to switch that account.
If you have several servers and you don’t share libraries from one of these with some users,
these users won’t see the server at all.
Just keep in mind that you don’t activate DLNA on the ‘parents’ server.
And the only protection is your 4-digit PIN which prevents your Plex Home users from switching to your admin account.
If you are going to share an entire server with these users and really don’t want the other users to see your adult server, you don’t need to bother with the Plex Pass. Just create standard Plex accounts and share your servers as appropriate.
True that PP is not necessary, but logging in with AppleTV’s is far easier using PIN (the home user approach) instead of typing userid / password with the ATV remote (unless you have a bluetooth keyboard).
