Multiple Version and Audio Transcode Issue on Android

Thanks! My CCwGTV got the update automatically pretty quickly. I’ll check on the FTV in a couple weeks.

I’m sorry, but the problem doesn’t seem to have been completely solved. It still happens a few times, randomly for my part. Am I alone?

I’m not experiencing issue anymore. What version are you running?

Server is 1.32.6.7468
Client is 9.30.0.3604

When I say random, I mean that it doesn’t happen on all media.
But if it does happen on a particular media, the problem will be permanent.

if it is reproducible consistently with certain files/media then if you could share android logs after reproducing. We may need server logs too.

Yes, just got the issue, I activated the logs (on server (windows) and player on android tv), then tried to play 3 episodes of Painkiller.
I will send you the logs in PM, I don’t know if everyone could read them if I post them here.

Thank you !

Do you need something else ?
I sent you the logs by PM, I don’t know if everyone could read them if I posted them here. I prefer that only Plex Employees could be able to read them.

Thomas

Sorry I forgot to reply. Thank you for messaging me the logs. Not sure why it is happeing to you yet

Hello,

Any news or need something else about this issue ?
It still happens sometimes for me.
Tell me if you need something else.

@BigWheel

This dreaded bug seems to be back in 10.3.0 (or maybe even an earlier version).

Hello everyone,

Am I the only one still experiencing issues? It doesn’t happen with every item I own in the multi-version, but some are affected. I sent logs the last time the bug occurred, and it’s still present. Will you need new logs? I’m using the latest stable version for the client and the beta version for the server.

I wish you all happy holidays in advance.

@BigWheel this issue does appear to be back, but it’s slightly different. I don’t have time to test fully this time around again, but multiple files aren’t playing on a 2023 Fire TV 4K Max and a CCwGTV4K when an audio transcode is necessary. Using the select version workaround also doesn’t appear to work.

@speeddemon I will need server logs. As far as I know the server makes the decision about which to transcode rather than the android app forcing a specific version. I would need both server logs and android logs.

@BigWheel this issue is presenting itself the same as it did when I originally opened this thread up a year ago. Can you use the information I provided back then to have the devs then apply the same fix they did previously? Ideally, you could re-open the same issue/bug in your internal tracking system.

+1 Running into this as well

@speeddemon

Does it matter if subtitles are enabled?

I’m testing with Plex Android Mobile 10.9.0.5657 (beta) on my Pixel 6a (Android 14), which does not support EAC3 audio. Phone is on Wi-Fi, local to Plex server.

Two versions of the same movie, one 720p, one 1080p, with external SRT subtitles.

If I do not select subtitles before playing, Plex immediately picks and plays the 1080p version.

If I choose subtitles before playing, I get the spinning orange circle.

Confirming as well that everything works as expected if deselecting subtitles in playback settings before playing, but selecting subtitles prior to playing causes Plex to hang.

@FordGuy61 Has someone opened up another thread for this new subtitle issue preventing playback?
CC @BigWheel

I’m not aware of a new thread. However, Plex is aware of the problem and it is easy to reproduce on an Android phone (I have not tested on Android TV).

I removed the solution tag, so the thread will show as unsolved in the forum.

Hello everyone,

I can confirm that I have the issue when I have multiple version of a movie and if there is a SRT selected before trying to play.
If I select “no SRT”, Plex has no issue to choose one of multiple version movie.

Thomas
