Music folder not being scanned

Server Version#:1.21.0-3744
Player Version#:

Hi there,

I currently have my plex server setup in a Synology NAS DS1621 and I was successful in adding my TV Shows & Movies. When pointing to where the movies and shows were, it was scanned successfully and I can view it perfectly.

For music, I have quite a large collection of over 20 years of song hoarding which was all managed by iTunes library up until a few years back, when I switched to MusicBee as my default Music mgmt software.

With all that been said, I’m pointing the folders correctly where I store my music, which contains many many sub-directories but I don’t the songs loaded.

This is how I’m directing the folders for search in Plex Server:

I can easily access these folders in Windows:

I even tried just adding the latest folder which should have less folders and be less “messy”:

The #2020 folder for example contains:

  • .aiff files
  • .mp3 files
  • and folders (albums) containing either .aiff and .mp3 files.

I was hoping at least the latter would work but something isn’t right.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Step 1: check that the PMS on your Syno has permission to see that share. For PMS running on DSM 5 or 6, that’s the system user Plex, for DSM 7 it’s PlexMediaServer.

Step 2: review your folder organization and avoid recursive folder assignments (you’re currently pointing both iTunes Music and iTunes Music/#2022 which will cause Plex to scan the #2022 folder 2x).

Thanks for the tips, I was missing the NFS in File Service and then enabled the PlexMediaServer as user as instructed. After that the scanning process now works!
