So, the cause is my own fault, because I didn’t properly check the artist tag before adding the single to my music library, but I can’t get Plex to update to the correct tag.
When I added the following single to Plex I had the artist named as “regallily”, I quickly discovered that this was not correct, as it should’ve been “Regal Lily”. I’ve since fixed the tags in the files to the correct tags for Artist and Album Artist and filenames.
I’ve tried the following to fix this:
1: Refresh metadata.
Nothing changes. Does this even do anything?
2: Plex dance. Removed the files and folders. Rescanned the library. Verified that it is no longer in my library. Emptied the library trash. Re-added the folders and files. No change to the artist. It is still shown as “regallily”.
Draw the Plex Dance out to several days,
i.e. remove all the music from this artist,
then let your server perform its automated server maintenance (usually at night).
Since there are some cleanup operations which are only performed once a week, I cannot say withg certainty when the last remnants are cleared from the database. Hence my recommendation to draw it out to a week and only add the files back after that.
But before you do that, verify that your files have the correct name in the Album Artist meta tag.
This is different from the regular Artist tag. You cannot see it in the Windows file properties.
You’ll need a dedicated metadata editor, like e.g. mp3tag or Kid3 to edit this.
lmao having to wait for the weekly maintenance task to fix this with no way to manually trigger it when needed. Plex library management is such a can of worms.
Thank you for the quick reply. I’m sure that will solve it.
Thank you for pointing that out! I haven’t really needed to clean bundles when doing the dance for movies and series, so I forgot. Retried with the steps previously not mentioned. It still didn’t work. I guess I’ll have to wait for the weekly cleanup. ¯\(ツ)/¯
