I have an album that Plex Music agent has the wrong artist for and I am unable to change it. I have my album tagged properly (using MP3tag) and Plex is set to prefer local metadata. Plex IDs the album and tracks correctly, but the wrong artist.
I have updated the Artist name in Plex, but it refuses to stick. I have also submitted the album to MusicBrainz, and the info is correct in Picard Tagger.
Any suggestions
Folder structure of this album?
Same as the other 2000 albums in my folder that don’t import (not entirely) random artists for albums.
Everything is right in Plex, except for the artist. No mention of Weir & Wasserman in Picard for this album. No ID3 fields containing that info in MP3tag.
I should add that using “Fix Match” finds the correct album, with correct artist, but doesn’t change the artist field.
The folder that has been added to the Plex library is /Artists Flac?
Are you ripping/downloading directly into this folder? i.e. is Plex perhaps able to scan the files before they are complete, or before you have added or corrected the metadata in them?
If so: don’t.
Try the Plex Dance with this album. Actually, I’d check the Album Artist tag of all albums inside of /Artists Flac/Jerry Garcia (they must be identical), then Plex Dance them together.

Yes, that is the folder that is in this plex library. But no, not ripping or downloading directly to it. I manually tag everything before I dump it in there.
But you DID help find one issue with that folder. There’s another live release in that folder that contains the opening band’s set as well as the JGB set. Wanna guess who it was? Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman.
Changed the Album Artist of the other album to JGB, leaving Artist at Weir & Wasserman, danced again, and voila! We’re fixed.
You sir, remain a genius. And a generous one at that. Thanks again! (Still seems like an odd bug to pull in the album artist from a different album).
Yes, when you have this situation it is crucial to not deviate the “Album Artist” just for these few tracks. Use the “[Track] Artist” tag for that
