This is very strange…
I just used the feature yesterday and on the very same two albums that were merged by Plex. Today, it’s not there anymore?? (I had to redo it today because I had to Plex Dance to fix some issues)
Anybody know how to solve this? I see it’s not an uncommon problem as googling brings up a lot of results (although most of them were for video files, same problem though).
Split is only available if the media files are stored in separate folders.
Also you have to be aware at which level of the library hierarchy you are.
They are. It goes back to my ‘Various Artists’ problem in the other thread.
These are ten albums in separate folders named “Café del Mar Vol 1”, “Café del Mar Vol 2”, etc…
Oddly. for the 2nd time now, Vol 9 & 10 got merged?
And they are even separated in the details of the album since Vol 9 & 10 appear as separate discs.
Anyway, I solved it another way by simply selecting the files of Vol 10, clicking the pencil tool and renaming the Album field with “…Vol. 10”.
But I know yesterday I had done it using the ‘Split Apart’ function…strange.
This isn’t just an issue with music. It affects TV and Video as well.
As an example, I am unable to split apart Harry Potter 7 - Part 1 from Harry Potter 7 - Part 2, and the only way to enable splitting apart is to store them in different directories???
That is absurd.
I should be able to split apart any merged files that I want to, and this is one of many instances where I would want to.

the are not merged in the same sense as it thinking those are two copies of the same thing which i what splitting apart separates.,
If you have them named as part 1 and part 2 , it thinks they are two halves of one movie where they will play back to back. Info about that here. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/#toc-3
You need to correct the naming to use something else like using roman numerals Part I and Part II
