It’s not a pervasive as you think. I’ve been looking into this issue since it was reported and I could never recreate the issue on multiple devices. Even now, I still can’t recreate the problem.

What devices have you tried this on?
The community can provide logs and specs of devices that the problem reproduces so you can quickly reproduce the issue.
For example, I use a Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 SM-G389f with Android 6.0.1 and the latest version of plex app.

This is a great example of why I continue to be frustrated over this issue. We have so many posts in this thread reporting the same issue. And a Plex employee just says; I can’t create the issue. Then never follows up with any evidence for the test.
It almost comes across as, “well I don’t see the issue, so the issue must not exist”.
Plex needs a bug tracker.

They are aware. We were finally able to reproduce the issue recently. Yes there was a big push to get the DVR/LiveTV stuff into the latest releases that pushed a few things to the back burner. Now that the big push is done and we will get back to other issues, this being near the top of the list.
Please stop commercial BS for a minute. Your enterprise charge user for functions that does not work correctly (what is the point of synchronizing music if I can’t play it correctly?), that’s the main point.
And, in 1 year, don’t expect me to believe that someone in the team could not buy or borrow an Android 7 device (as the problem touch MANY IF NOT ALL android 7 devices), AND people are keen to give logs in this thread and similar ones.
Please be honest with at least your paid users or learn how to communicate. There is a very bad combination of “i don’t care about this s**t bug” and weak skills of communication for this problem. You are an enterprise with customers, not a little association.
And tell your boss that this is stupid to push something new when others are broken. Yeah I’m kinda angry because I like the concept of plex but I see it rotten by stupid decisions.
PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE! I can’t very easily change to the next track while I’m out riding my motorcycle. How hard can it possibly be to fix this bug where the music just stops playing!
Bumping this. I would also like to know what devices are being used for testing. It’s disappointing that this has been left unresolved for a year.
For what it’s worth:
Those of you who are able to enroll in the Android O beta (Android 8) might want to give it a try. I tested it for a bit this afternoon and so far it seems to be fixed for me.
Plex, I am tired of waiting… It has been far too long. I have decided to notify all my visitors of how poor and dangerous this app is for music.

I now use a Motorola Moto Z Play (Build NDN26.118-23) with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and the latest Plex app, and this issue happens often enough to be annoying. I listen to audiobooks a lot, and when I do I binge, so I notice it often where the narration just stops and I have to back out of it so it will properly resume playback without losing my place.
This needs more attention. Like all areas of their development, Plex is dying and failing on this one.
This thread has become a daily Twitter rant from a bunch of whiny girls. Can we hear from a developer assigned to this defect and what information/logs they may need to help speed up the resolution? It’s been a fun two weeks seeing nothing but daily complaints on the forum as if developers actually move quicker hearing user complaints without actual defect information.
I have a Nexus 6 running Android 7.1.1 and this is happening frequently. Maybe everyone can shout out there device having the problem to help instead of threatening to stop using Plex…

Yes referring to the community as “a bunch of whiny girls” is a great way to gather support.
If you read through this thread you will see there has been numerous well written posts detailing testing done with logs provided. I myself have spent hours testing with both a Nexus 6 and a Nexus 6P. Logs and testing scenarios were provided a couple months ago. Other people have provided even better testing results. There was a concentrated effort that went on for quite a few pages. All with disappointing feedback from Plex. The only “official” responses have been; they can’t replicate it with multiple devices (no insight to the devices used has been provided), one developer has been able to replicate the issue, and that it’s now being worked on after Android TV was done.
That’s it, that’s all we got after almost a full year of this issue existing. I think the community has spent enough time and effort to get this resolved. So yes we are upset, rightfully so.
Plex needs a bug tracker.
RE: a workaround
I know some have asked for a workaround in the meantime. I have had this issue for a long time as well. But I use the StayAlive! app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive&hl=en) and set it to keep the screen on when Plex is running - though I do allow dimming in the app’s settings.
BEFORE YOU SAY THIS ISN’T IDEAL/WON’T WORK FOR YOU: It might not be an ideal solution for you. I gather that. Some of you don’t want to drain the battery life. Some of you don’t want to bump the screen if it’s on. Whatever. I get it. That’s why this isn’t a “solution”. It’s a workaround.
I’ve used this in my car and while out on runs (with the phone secured in a waist pouch). I haven’t had any problems bumping anything or messing with the screen.
Not ideal, but it does work for me.
Google Pixel running Android 7.1.2
I’ve been having issue #2 using a OnePlus 3T on Android 7.1.1, although I’ve been having it ever since the 7.0 upgrade. Playback stops when running on battery power with screen off. Happens only on synced content, usually within 6 songs of pressing play.
I am also having this issue. I’m having a Xiaomi Mi 5S with LineageOS Android 7.1.2. I tried to stop battery optimizations for the Plex app. A thing that I noticed is that the song always stops at 80% of the song OR the song doesn’t start at all. **Another thing I noticed is that when the phone is being charged while I am driving in the car, this does not happen. **
My gut feeling is that Plex forgets to get the camera from deep sleep or something, becaus it always happens after a couple of songs (so far I can remember). Will see if I can get some logs.
I also had the feeling that I could be because the library doesn’t sync to 100%. But it looks like that is a different bug, because all the songs are there playing fine. Also tried other, smaller libs that were at 100%. Still having this issue.
Edit: Here’s a log from my phone.
At this time I started playing a song.
08-17 21:37:00.447 i: [MediaDecisionEngine] Starting media decision for: Kensington - Riddles (part index 0)
This one stopped at around 75/80%. It is not only this song that has issues, and sometimes this song just plays fine. So it does not have to do anything with the song being broken or something.
Will see if I can create a new log for you after work when I drive home.
Just stopping by to state that this issue is present for me as well. Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 7.0 w/ latest version of the Plex for Android app (v6.3.4.1485).
I can see that the music is being pushed from my server to the phone when this error occurs, bandwidth is not an issue. The music will either fail to start playing or start to stutter every 5-8 seconds during playback. A skip ahead or back resolves for another 10-15 minutes, then crops back up. Thought it may be a transcoding issue, but switching to a lower bitrate or changing to source does not work.
Reconfirming Android 7.0 on Droid Turbo 2. Again its related to the SD card and battery saver. All my other music apps work just fine but Plex just gives up. Been about 4-5 Months and we get local video playback but critical failures are not being addressed.
Same issue on Lenovo P2 on Android 7.0. This is the one feature I am trying out Plex Pass for.
Thought the bug had disappeared for me, however it popped back up this morning while walking back from the gym! Logs for the device and PMS attached if anyone from plex is actually working on this:
Manufacturer: Sony
Device: F5321
Version: 7.1.1
Happened the 3rd of 4th track in while listening to Caro Emerald - had to unlock the screen to get the next track to play.
