Hrm. This just happened to me this week. I haven’t listened to music for a while, so haven’t really noticed the issue since a while ago. But was playing today and after the 3rd or 4th song, the song just stopped about 1:30 into it. Then it skipped to the next track. I’ll gather some logs later, but this is seriously annoying.
This has reappeared as an issue for me as well! Had been working for a while but multiple issues have been occurring for a week or 2 now, see the following:
- Music playback stops.
- Playback skips to next track randomly.
- Playback timeline is double time which makes lyrics out of sync. E.g. every second of the song that passes the progress bar will increase by 2 seconds.
Very annoying!
Honestly, I can’t say how well Plex works for music any longer because I’ve
given up on it. I’d recommend using Subsonic instead of Plex for music.
I’ve been using it for over a year now and it works significantly better
than Plex does.
Plex has made it clear that they aren’t concerned with the usability of
their platform or the bugs present. I have several outstanding support
requests that have been open for well over a year with no response from
Plex. This is especially true of music playback issues on Plex. Trust me,
it’s a better use of your time to switch platforms than to troubleshoot
Plex, at least when it comes to music playback.
- Music playback stops.
- Playback skips to next track randomly.
- Music playback** starts**. Phone a few Meters away from me and suddenly starts playing music
about twice a week…strange
Please re-open this thread, I am facing the same issue. I have tested streaming with power connected and it works with no issues. If my phone is not on charge then the playback pauses randomly towards the end of the track.
Plex Server: Version 3.52.2
Android: 7.1.1
Logs attached.
Plex had elected to ignore this (and many other) user issues. I would
recommend you use Subsonic for music instead. Plex has made it clear they
don’t care about audio, so I honestly wouldn’t bother.
Where did they say that they don’t care? I slowly ask myself why i bought the plex pass

This hasn’t been fixed in years. Gapless playback hasn’t been introduced although it’s been requested for years. The android app doesn’t trigger a transcode of audio files even if the bitrate/size is bigger than what you set for internet streaming… and that bug has been there SINCE THE FEATURE WAS INTRODUCED! Need more?
I know I bought the Plexpass lifetime for mobile sync and that’s terribly buggy also… Just bought lifetime Emby Premiere to support them and help them past Plex. Plex stopped caring about us users years ago.

it is so sad seeing Plex being so bad with such basic things
When I first used PLex it was like…“okay maybe i made a mistake setting up my server correctly” or “okay will be fixed in the next update” but the longer you use it the more bugs you detect…bugs that ARE FIXABLE but they get, as you said, ignored! I also have 3 really basic problems and when i see people here claimng for a fix since several years this makes Plex a little unreliable… straight marketing for luring new costumers without love to their product or customers that keep their software alive. I will also have a look at Emby, thank you for the info. Sorrry for my bad english!
I recently moved over from Emby to Plex and I can assure you the grass isn’t greener on the other side (get it, the Emby logo is green). Their music metadata scraper is rubbish and doesn’t match half of my large library (causing too much manual input). I’ve also had issues with them releasing an update and wiping my library completely losing all the manual metadata I entered.
I’ve emailed Plex and cancelled my Plex Pass subscription as their Android app is awful. Not just music playback, but syncing local data too. I’m going to continue to use Plex but as a back end for Kodi using PlexKodiConnect. I’m going to look into Subsonic too.
Oh, and for music on my Android phone I’ve switched to Yatse. It offers offline sync without the need for Plex Pass, plus it doesn’t have this stupid bug.
I’m gutted as I really like the concept of the Plex eco system but the amount of bugs on their media apps is ridiculous.

Subsonic/Booksonic are also not greener. It labels and sorts artists and albums based on folder names, forcing …/artist/album organization and the use of particular naming conventions; it does not easily allow you to change album art when it is set; it is not even possible to set artist poster art from using local files; it has swipe gestures on Now Playing that can’t be disabled; and the UI feels like an amateur project.

One nice thing about Subsonic is that there’s a decent ecosystem of alternate clients. On Android, DSub is not only better than the official client but extremely pleasant to use. (Enough that I’d considered putting up with the other negative Subsonic stuff you mentioned just to use it.)

I have the exact same issue on my end. Can we get some input @elan @antoniolg @jesusmc @roflharrison @sixones @romancamelia @marekszulik
It’s ironic Plex touted their music capability in their latest blog post, and yet it is actually unusable on Android. Gonna set a reminder to tag all of the Android staff everyday until this is resolved.

I also thought the blog was hilarious, so many issues with music, especially on android.
The funny thing is we are not talking about an exotic OS nobody uses.

So the last reported playback status was 6 seconds before the end of the song (183224 of 189560), then 6 seconds later requests the next song. This looks normal to me.
^^ That was the end of the log. If the problem occurred at some other time, I’ll need to know what song was playing or the time so I can look in the right spot.

Yes it was, and as mentioned it stops playback completely towards the end of the track. Doesn’t matter now as I’ve had my Plex Pass refunded. I saw the long history of the thread and didn’t have much hope for it to be fixed.
