Music Playback Stopping

Same issue here on Nexus 6P with Android 7.0

Would love to have this resolved. It makes the app and my PlexPass pretty unhelpful in the car.

Had this same issue on a Nexus 5x (Android 7.1.2) for a few months now.

I just signed up for a month of Plex Pass prior to purchasing a lifetime subscription; current primary motivation is playing music on my phone, both streaming (e.g. at work) and synced (e.g. running, driving, etc.). This is not very encouraging =/

Nexus 5x: Android 7.1.2
Plex app: 5.9.2.805 (274b0cdf)
Plex server: 1.5.5.3634

The problem has been around since August 2016 when Android 7.0 was released. Don’t forget to share your thoughts on the Play Store reviews.

I shared my thoughts when I terminated my Plex Pass subscription and requested (and received) a refund. It’s obviously a known bug that contradicts the advertising on their ā€œFeaturesā€ page:

Available Anywhere
Stream all of your media to all your devices, anytime, anywhere, with the same beautiful experience on all of them. (iOS, and Windows apps require a one-time unlock fee for full playback if you do not have a Plex Pass.)

That is probably the wisest course of action, because the absence of support exposes a more deep-seated issue with Plex as a whole. Future issues with the platform are likely to be handled in the same fashion.
How do you manage your media now? Did you find another platform to use? I may have to completely redo my setup and use a different service.

Still not fixed with Plex 5.10.0 released today.

Just to give an update. The devs have identified the cause of the app stopping when the phone goes to sleep. Unfortunately, the fix will impact a few different things in the app so it didn’t make it into the 5.10.0 update from today. Hopefully soon once all the other little things are ironed out.

@ā€œMovieFan.Plexā€ Thanks for the update!! Glad to know that it’s being worked on.

Grand - will be able to listen to music on the go again!

This happens to me as well.

Running Android 7.1.2, Nexus 5X and Plex 5.9.3.65

If the developers found the problem, why is the hotfix still not deployed? You wrote on May 23rd, now we have the May 29th. This problem affects people who have paid for it - we all have a plex pass, that brings us what? This problem?; I am waiting since December 2016. Neither in the update 5.10.0 nor in the 5.10.1 it was fixed. Where is the problem? Plex is terminated in standby because you have not managed to tell Android that Plex is allowed to run in the background? Call me crazy, but it can’t really be so hard that you can’t fix it in the last 6 months.
And what do you mean with ā€˜the other little things’? If you need longer, simply publish 2 updates.
So I hope this fix will be released quickly.

@ā€œMovieFan.Plexā€ any update on a fix? I know you said you’re working on it but an ETA would be nice considering we’re paying customers.

Sorry, I don’t have an update. If you are in the Beta program, any fix will show up there first.

This is getting beyond ridiculous. I can listen for a song or two then randomly, dead air. I have to skip back and forward again to play the song I was listening to… from the beginning again. I seriously can’t drive 10 minutes in the car without it freezing up.

Plex really needs to fix this – it’s very broken.

Is that so complicated to give a damn ETA ? Example "expect some corrections on these 2 weeks " for example?
Because you guys are doing false advertising on your site. Sync includes that you can READ what you are syncing. You are not syncing just to say ā€œhey look buddy, my files are here, awesome, but I can’t read 'emā€

At least allow external player like for videos if your internal player is f***ed. I think it’s not a big deal from a PAYED dev to do this as a workaround. This problem is known for months and nearly no communication on this topic, and no improvement at all. It’s becoming worser. In 2 months (another account) I was able to play 2 or 3 songs in a row, now it cuts in the middle of the first one !

And you dare to charge people for this broken option !

@ā€œMovieFan.Plexā€ Thanks to you and the whole Plex team for your work in getting this resolved.

As a software dev who has had forums telling me how awful I was at my job every day, I know firsthand it’s difficult to read through comments like the ones above. I’ve been there. It’s frustrating, it’s disheartening, and it ruins your motivation.

I want to chime in some positive vibes - thanks for all you’re doing to produce the best product you can. It’s appreciated. Your work is appreciated.

To everyone else: it sure does suck when there are bugs, but have some compassion. ETA’s bring further wrath when they don’t meet the timeline they communicated. Or, an ETA forces them to push out some half-baked solution with more bugs - just to meet the ETA. All you frothing at the mouth now would be calling for blood if that happened.

Let’s all calm down and let these fine people do their job. It’s clearly on their radar - berating them won’t help it get fixed any faster.

That last part isn’t strictly true… This issue is very old in software terms, and is obviously an issue that many different media players have managed to resolve a long time ago. It was simply too low on Plex’s totem poll for them to devote any time to it.

The more paying customers Plex realizes are affected and annoyed by the issue, and the more potentially paying customers like myself who are holding off because of this and only this issue, the more resources they will allow to spend time on resolving the issue.

We aren’t upset with the devs (well, I’m not, anyway). I’m upset with the program managers and how they have chosen to allocate resources to developing new features instead of delivering on already-advertised basic functionality for people that paid for it.

I could not have said it better myself.
