Music rating doesn't work in latest Plex versions

Hi,

I have Plex installed on a Synology NAS.
Recently I upgraded to version 1.13.4-5271 and then to version 1.13.8-5395
Both have the same bug and I really hope it’s gonna be fixed as soon as possible.
In my music Library, I activate the Rating column but it doesn’t show any value. I rated a lot of songs in the past. The weird thing - in the player on the bottom of the page the Rating is show correctly. Also, I have Smart Playlists based on the Ratings and they work fine. It’s just the Rating column that is of no good.
I uploaded a file to show what I mean.

I’m using this feature a lot and personally I really don’t like when I update something and it works worse than before, so hopefully this will be fixed soon and it will not happen, at least not very often.

BR,
Gabriel

Come on, when you search Plex support it sends you here.
It even states ‘Support questions submitted through the contact form will go unanswered’
But then I come here, I post a screenshot clearly showing a bug and I get no answer.
Is anyone actually working on Plex reading this?
Is there any other place where you can submit bugs?

I cannot recreate the issue on my side.
Keep in mind that this only shows ratings of the track. It won’t show ratings which were applied to the album as a whole, nor ratings which were applied to the artist.

Are you using the publicly hosted version of the web app?
https://app.plex.tv/desktop
Because this one is supposed to have the latest code.
The one that comes with your plex server version may be slightly outdated.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
I’m not using the publicly hosted version, but a version hosted on my Synology NAS.
I’m using version 1.13.8-5395
Yes, it’s the track rating, not the album’s.
Also, if I right click the song and get the info, it shows the correct Rating.
Only the column doesn’t show the proper version.

[LATER EDIT] In the meantime I also tested the publicly hosted version, it’s exactly the same behavior, no Rating is shown. Tested both on my PC and on my Android phone.

Maybe slightly offtopic - do you know, if I uninstall and then install again Plex, will I lose all my collections? I assume so, that’s why I haven’t reinstalled it already. But I’m pretty sure it’s not an installation issue, it worked before the last update.

I am using a slightly newer version of the server. so there is hope that it may be fixed when this version becomes available publicly.

See this thread. Q6 and Q7 in particular:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/synology-faqs-read-this-first/274891#Q6

I will post again on this thread as the problem is still there.
Today I upgraded to version 1.14.1.5488 (PlexMediaServer-1.14.1.5488-cc260c476-x86_64.spk)
The same problem - I can’t set the rating on the music page.

So I uninstalled Plex and installed an older version: 1.12.2.4929
Guess what? It works as a charm now. At least on my NAS device.
Then I went to app.plex.tv - here setting the Rating still doesn’t work.
I uploaded 2 images below where you can see this.

Is anyone from Plex actually reading this?
Honestly , if I were a paid subscriber I would have cancelled my subscription long ago as no one seems to actually care about fixing bugs.

NAS (with version 1.12.2.4929)

PlexTV

I have tested this with both the hosted and the local web app.
It is working in both for me.

Which web browser are you using?
Any browser add-ons installed? (particularly those designed to change websites and add or remove elements from them). Try disabling those.

I tried with Chrome, Mozilla and Microsoft Edge.
On Edge I don’t have any addons installed.
With Chrome and Mozilla I have some addons but none should change the way websites look like.
I can send logs or anything that should help.

This is the hosted web app in Chrome
I have used an account with no Plex Pass, to rule out this as a factor.

Please open an ‘incognito’ browser tab and try again.
Disable all browser add-ons and try again.

Sorry for the delayed response.

I tried with plex.tv in incognito and still rating doesn’t work.

I don’t want to disable all browser add-ons because as I said rating doesn’t work in any browser, even in Edge where I have no add-ons installed. Moreover, I forgot to mention, this happens on my home PC AND also on my work PC, so on 2 different PCs.

Are you using a custom domain name for your server or a reverse proxy?

I am connecting to my Plex server using my own domain name, indeed (not the IP, as I have a dynamic IP). Is this what you are referring to?
In Plex’s settings I don’t remember mentioning my domain anywhere.

I’m not using a reverse proxy.

Try with your IP and see whether that is making any difference, please.

Ok. I’m always a bit afraid when upgrading or downgrading so for the moment I won’t upgrade again, but I will probably do that in a month or so after I get tired of the current playlist that I’m listening to and I am ok with the risk of losing data.
I will come back with feedback then.

Until then, I think it’s important to mention that rating doesn’t work with plex.tv either and I’m pretty confident that plex.tv doesn’t use my domain name, as it shouldn’t know about it.

I have this same issue. Although I’m running Plex on Windows not on a Synology NAS. The tracks all still have their ratings as seen when the track is playing however the column in the music library is completely blank.

UPDATE: rolled back a few versions…
I tried versions 1.14.0.5470, 1.13.8.5395, 1.13.2.5154 and none of them worked for me.
However 1.13.0.5023 worked.

Would appreciate some assistance in working out what is at fault here.

It doesn’t appear to affect any of the other libraries, the ratings column in the Movies library works just fine for example. I tried adding a second Music library, yet it exhibits the same problem.

Same here.
Using Plex server on Synology NAS - 1.14.1.5488
Song ratings are not showing in rating column on Plex.tv or on my iPhone app in “All Songs” view.
However, if I apply star rating filter, it does filter fine.

I have the same issue using Plex on my local Synology NAS. Plex version 1.14.1.5488.

I have tried having my web browser use the DNS name as well as the IP address as the target URL to Plex . Both show the same issue.

still waiting for this to be fixed…or at least help with identifying the cause.

I think I and @trumpy81 have found it: the issue is only present in a ‘basic’ music library.
And only if you use the ‘Tracks’ view mode and add the ‘Rating’ column.

I have filed this as a bug.
