Music scanner has problems with umlauts

Server Version: 1.24.0.4930
Linux OS: Debian 10 buster

I found a bug that appeared in my music library.

Observed behaviour
If the folder containing an mp3 contains an umlaut (in the first word?) then plex fails to parse some id3-tags.

Folder structure
Artist\albums\tracks
In my case it’s an audiobook with 18 parts/albums with naming scheme %Artist%\%partno% - %AlbumTilte%\%TrackNo% %AlbumTitle%.mp3

Elaborate description
Two out of 18 Albums failed to parse some id3-tags (all tracks have been properly tagged with Mp3tag). For the failed tracks there was no cover present, no genre, no album-sort. I plex-danced the two albums, removed all id3-tags, refreshed metadata and scanned for files numerous times.
Then I changed the folder-name from “15 - Fröhliche Weihnachten” to “15 - Froehliche Weihnachten” and all tags showed up as expected! The filename stayed untouched and remains “1 Fröhliche Weihnachten.mp3”.
The other failed album/folder was named “12 - Böse Überraschungen” and got renamed to “12 - Boese Ueberraschungen” and this also worked.

Only thing that doesn’t fit in my theory is that the album “10 - In der Höhle des Löwen” can be parsed without issues, so I added the “in the first word?” part to my observation.

Would this get more attention if I attach some logs?

@ChuckPa are you the right person to bother with this? I’ve already invested a fair amount of time in finding this bug and I don’t want to waste more if nobody cares. Cheers.

Yep.

i am the right person.

I’m sorry I didn’t come sooner. The Synology forum has been overwhelmingly occupying my time.

Can you show me please so I may make a recreation and submit it for you?

PS: Yes, your DEBUG logs which also demonstrate it happening would help a great deal

No worries, I understand that.

I have “great” news anyway. I am not able to reproduce the bug anymore.
So either the last update fixed something or plex doesn’t behave consistently as I was able to reproduce it back when I reported it with version 1.24.1.4931.

If I happen to stumble upon that behaviour again I’ll remember to gather some debug logs.
