My active Plex Pass isn't active...though shows that it is

I didn’t want to enter a credit card for Plex Pass subscription, so I was gifted a Plex Pass subscription (purchased at Best Buy).

I have an iOS devices (iPad and iPhone). I was gifted the 1 yr subscription to Plex Pass paid in full. Got the email with the link to activate and code to enter. I have activated that code in my Plex account. When I look at my Plex account, I see that the activation code is applied and my yearly subscription to Plex Pass is active thru Feb 2026.

However, when I login to Plex, I have limited play access. I have tried this on 2 different devices (logged out then back in). I cannot seem to figure this out. This seems like a no brainer.

What do you mean by “limited play access”?

What are you trying to play? Something from your own or a shared Plex server, something from Plex’s ad supported service, something from Plex’s rental service?

Trying to play a video on my shared Plex Server via the iPad my daughter has. The weird thing is the iPad can see everything on my Plex Server (movies that I loaded), but only gets to play them for 1 minute. Usually, that means you don’t have an active Plex Pass subscription. But as I stated, I verified that the account she is using has an active Plex Pass subscription.

Its as if the Plex account and Plex Pass have not synched. Though the Plex account details for her username clearly states the account is an active Plex Pass subscriber.

Never seen this before.

And when I look at ‘Friends’ on the Plex Server, her account does not say Plex Pass. Just when she started the account. Mine, states Plex Pass and when my account was created.

I sent a message to Plex Billing Support… not sure if that will go anywhere. So… I came here thinking one of the folks here knows what the issue could be.

Your daughter has her own Plex account with her own e-mail address and with her own Plex Pass, correct?

Suggestion:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server. Wait a minute, then restart Plex Media Server. This will force it to check in again with plex.tv.

  2. Reboot your daughter’s iPad.

  3. Using your daughter’s iPad, login to the Plex app with your account and play something on your Plex server. Can you play past one minute?

  4. On the iPad, login with your daughter’s account and play something from your server. See if she can play past the one minute limit.

If your daughter still cannot play past one minute, then a Plex employee or someone from Plex Billing will probably have to check her account to make sure the Plex Pass is correctly activated.

-I am leaning towards this though. Seems like an account/billing/subscription synch issue. Her account profile screen clearly states active Pass subscription, but it isn’t behaving or identify as one on my server.

You are aware, that in order to remove the “limited playback” on mobile devices you could also make a 5$ one-time purchase?

Or add the Plex Account of your dauther to your Plex Home with an active Plex Pass?

@jasonperry916 Looking at your account it shows you have a Plex Pass and you gave access to your server to another account. That other account does not have a Plex Pass.

It shows her account has the new subscription which was purchased. How do I send you a screenshot of her account that shows the code was redeemed and applied?
