Plex Pass Subscription App activation time limit playback error (in trial version)

Current Server and Player version.
Plex App for iPad. (current OS and App versions)
Subscription level: Lifetime Plex Pass

Due to newly installed Plex app working as a trial, there is no OBVIOUS/USER FRIENDLY way to see how to change subscription from None to Plex Pass. This happens every single time with one of my family members with Lifetime Plex Pass subscription. They encounter Time limit error message during media playback. My life stops and I have to provide support.

Every single time this happens we have to play a guess game what did we do last time to change subscription level on the new PLex app from “None” to “Lifetime Plex Pass.” This is the 10th time I have to deal with the same issue and I hope is the last.

THE ISSUE:
Until the mobile app is unlocked (through an in-app purchase or a Plex Pass subscription), video and music streamed from a Plex Media Server has a 1 minute limit, and photos will be watermarked.

We understand that authentication for the Plex Pass members is strictly enforced and should be checked on login BUT please is it too much to ask the developer’s team to make a simple visible link/button during that authentication process for Plex Pass members to be able to easily indicate that they have the Plex Pass subscription so their lives do not stop?

Allow me to propose a solution. Instead of the orange button “PLEX PASS BENEFITS” replace with “To authenticate as PLEX Pass member” click here.

Until that is the case, I had to glance through some of the previous forum posts here about it but did not find a solution and don’t want to spend more time searching so here is my post. Please either fix this issues as a process on logon going forward or provide a video or screenshots slides on how to resolve this. Remember that we are also supporting children who understand visible instructions better than written.

Thanks in advance.

PS. I asked for step by step VIDEO or Screenshots graphical solution instructions.

I won’t be able to provide you with a video or too many screenshots.

Some checks you can do:

  • are you signed in to the mobile app with the same account that has the Plex Pass?
the “A” in the screenshot implies it’s not the user you’re using here in the forum
  • if you signed up to a Plex Pass membership after initially signing in to the mobile app, try to force-quit the app… usually the Plex Pass is recognized after a restart.
  • if you have setup dedicated accounts for other family members they might not automatically benefit from your Plex Pass unless you add them to your “Plex Home”

See:

Your Plex account username starts with a V The screenshot you are showing the icons shows an A which indicates it is not the same account.

My original post describes that we were able to login before with the same user A and bypass the activation.

The user in question “A” is a family member which was invited using Users & Sharing section within Plex..

I am talking about one time in app purchase bypass here. Aren’t friends of Lifetime Plex pass members entitled to bypass activation?

Are friends of the Lifetime Plex Pass members not allow to bypass?
When did this change?

Anyways it looks like we are not talking about the issue at hand.
What are the steps for user A to bypass in app purchase?

It never changed.

They don’t have a Plex Pass you do. If you want that user to have the benefit of not having to buy the mobile app then you need to invite that user into your Plex Home by selecting the Invite Home User. button sending them the invite and they have to accept being in your home. Plex Home is meant for immediate family members that you actually live with in your home, not to give out our app for free to all your friends.

To be very clear this does not give them a Plex Pass, only allows the Home users to use the mobile app without the time limit. It will also enable the fast user switching menu as well so you should add a pin to your account. https://support.plex.tv/articles/203960236-consequences-of-being-in-a-plex-home/

RIDICULOUS! Where did it say in my post otherwise. In fact my post says:
“The user in question “A” is a family member which was invited using Users & Sharing section within Plex…”

The user was invited with INVITE HOME USER and confirmed. You can see the user in my screenshot provided in my previous post.

So now that we have established that this user is a family member and that user was properly invited using “INVITE HOME USER” and confirmed, WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO BYPASS THE BUY IN OPTION?

It they accepted being in your Plex Home they would be in your Plex Home. Accepting being your friend for sharing and accepting being your Plex Home are two differing things. They need to do that on their end on their account.

Simply being a friend, if that is all they accepted, has never and will never allow them to use the app without paying.

To be clear. I can see the back end of your account and the invites you sent and that user was only sent a regular share invite which is done by clicking the Share Libraries/Add a Freind button. If you want to invite them to your home hit the Invite to Home button and have them accept it on their end.

On their end if they are invited to the home they will see it like this where in the screenshot Spacemanone needs to hit the check mark to agree to be in my home

According to your screenshot above the user is not a member of your Plex Home.
To change that…

  1. Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
  2. Click on the user A
  3. When in the sharing settings for this user, click the Add to Home button at the top-right of the window

NONSENSE! Because in the past the same set up allowed to bypass in app purchase.

This means you are not providing accurate information.

It means that this has been changed by Plex.

Fine, let’s assume I have re-invited and now have this user listed under HOME USERS,

WHAT ARE THE STEPS NOW TO BYPASS THE IN APP PURCHASE?

You are giving us all the links that has no relevance to what is being asked herein.

Yeah i am. You can choose to believe whatever you want. Typing in all caps doesn’t make it true.

The only way to do it is invite you to your Plex Home which I have already explained how to do which you can choose to do or not.

I type in caps not to make things true but to remind myself of the constant outrage I had to experience every time I asked Plex forums for support. The caps will help remember the experiences, the next time I will make the decision on my home media vendors.

Thank you for your “PRIVACY POLICY FAIL” compliance you promised to uphold to your users and lifetime members. I will regretfully pretend for now that i did not read the above mention statement to make sure we still stay on topic. Look up: the COST OF NON-CONFORMANCE.

I know what I was told when buying a Lifetime Plex Pass, at the time, one of the benefits of getting a pass was to avoid in app purchase. If it’s different today, Plex probably changed it because of it’s no longer benefits them.

Plex keep changing policies and making adjustments…

Keep making them… keep watchful eye on your customer base…

You have the information on how to let your friend/family member use the app for free. You can choose to invite them to your Plex Home or not. They can choose to accept that invitation or not. That is the only way they can use the app without buying it or having a Plex Pass of their own.
