I’m a fan of native features being updated so here I am.
Yeah the AirPlay implementation is crappy and has not been addressed for years. Thing is not everyone else does either, for example Pandora sucks as well - but Spotify and Apple music and infuse seem to get it done…
Well… I gave up and signed up for Apple Music. I’m not using plex for playing music any longer. I can’t use it with any speaker with a voice assistant. There is an Alexa skill that is bad, and now is only supported in a handful of countries, useless. Now there is the great ML engine to suggest related music, that only works for x86 (when the world is transitioning to ARM).
I still hope that sometime in the future they’ll realize what customers want and change the direction. Meanwhile I’ll be using other service.
Good news! Now that Casey Liss of the Podcast “Accidental Tech Podcast” has switched to Infuse because of the playback in other rooms on AirPlay 2 is known to him maybe that will give Plex enough incentive to resolve this issue
Although the absence of any comment is distressing…
I thought I voted for this already. Voted!
Just recently installed several zones of audio around my house with airplay 2 support. Primary goal was to be able to airplay audio from my Apple TV to outdoor zones and some inside zones while using the outdoor projector for movie night. Imagine my surprise when I find plex is my only app that doesn’t support this. Imagine how further surprised I am to find out plex has been aware of this issues for years with no plans to fix it. WTF guys?
I tried raising this over 2 years ago, and was summarily dismissed by the CTO. It was baffling then, and has only compounded since that this is not in any way a priority.
It’s not just the 2 second delay in control, but I’d also like to realise the battery savings by offloading the streaming from my server to the speakers directly, instead of the current hair pinning through my phone. Not to mention whatever bug fixes have been applied since its introduction more than 5 years ago. I appreciate the need to be conservative at times, but half a decade in this industry is blatantly regressive.
I’d like to throw my hat into this ring, it’s incredibly frustrating that AirPlay 2 still isn’t supported in Plex, please reconsider fixing this issue!
Now I cannot get surround sound in the Player on the iPhone either - this was working with my AirPods Pro, now all I get is stereo out of Plex on the iPhone. Again, no such issues in Infuse, but I do prefer Plex’s interface…
I really like using PlexAmp and paid for a Plex Pass within minutes of setting up the app. The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn’t support instant Airplay 2 – It’s been 5+ years since Apple released this feature, so it’s kinda crazy that it hasn’t been implemented in PlexAmp. Tidal supports it, as do many independent apps like Overcast. The 2 second delay in PlexAmp is awful.
If Plex would just finally just give us a way to change audio offset ourselves, everyone with airplay 1 or airplay 2 devices could use the lovely plex front end instead of having to resort to MrMC.
The gross part is this functionality exists to some degree in PMP, but isn’t exposed anywhere else that I can find.
Airplay sync is fairly straightforward, 1800ms almost always. Let us set that once as a default on the client and if we are being greedy - give us a UI to fine tune it on a given video if we need to.
I thought this was a bug, until I found this post, so now understand this is just another key feature that Plex that doesn’t work properly. No GUI affordance to let you know, just doesn’t work.
My use case using my Sonos Roam with my iPad, and also Homepods. Something that I think we’ll see more and more requirement for.
Yet another reason to continue to use Infuse.
So do we have any progress on this?
I believe this is your same issue and we are seeing some progress here:
So again, no airplay 2 yet for music related videos to be able to cast to other rooms? I’m sick of starting it in Plex and then switching to infuse after I found it and now playing it in continue watching. Please get this done…
For the most part this seems to work now, I believe AirPlay 2 support was added. I do not know about the new experience app yet
