My initial impressions of the live and recorded TV function

I’m using the Shield TV as the client.

  1. I’d rather have the program data organized by channel and time, not just all the programs currently live shown as thumbnails. Is this possible?

  2. When I search for a program on the Shield (it is cool to have voice search available) Plex crashes. It did it several times and I submitted the data each time.

  3. When playing USA ATSC 1080i59.94, which should be deinterlaced to 29.97fps or 59.94fps (with a doubler), whatever player plex is using (info says it’s an external player) is switching my TV to 60fps, not 59.97.

Also, the “new episodes tonight” section is useless. Many new “episodes” not shown at all.

  2. Try clearing ‘cache’ and ‘data’ and re loggining into the app. Some folks have noticed this and only workaround to clear it up so far, we’re trying to figure out why.

  3. Plex is not using an external player, not sure what info you’re seeing this from?

Clearing data and cache seems to have fixed the crash problem with searching. However, I just got a crash at the start of playback of live TV.

Regarding the thought I had on an external player, info overlay says ExoPlayer v2 which I don’t see for other media types.

in most apps the channel icon is too small to see…

hard to acertain recording conflicts on dual tuner setups…

plex server / app wide I would like to be able to see more metrics, data, stream info, processor usage, i.e. more visibility into what is going on under the hood… plex is a long way from what it was back in 2008 and need the controls and dashboard to match… my 2 cents… if its worth that much

I’ve had several instances of the web app saying I’m still playing live TV even though I’ve stopped. I’ve had to force stop for it to register. In such events I don’t think the tuner was in use anymore, it just hadn’t registered with the web app that I’d stopped.

Worse than that, I had an instance where the Tuner setup thought one of my 4 was being used, when it wasn’t. I had to exit PMS and restart to get that error fixed.
