so im new to plex and im making playlists, I made my hobbit playlist with the three movies everything was good it showed up on my tv then I opened it again and all my movies disappeared, when I click add files it shows the files are there but they don’t actually show up. same thing happened to my harry potter folder had the first 7 movies and went to add the 8th when it finished downloading and all but the last four disappeared. ive tried deleting it and remaking the playlist over and adding them all at the same time instead of going back in and it deletes all of them, I tried splitting it up into 2 folders thinking the files were like too big and same thing happened, ive tried only adding certain hp movies thinking that maybe I had a bad file, still the same problem. idk what is going on. sometimes after I add the movies itll say may still be scanning internet at the bottom. im going to try to include pics
According to these screenshots, you’ve not making playlists, you have been creating ‘Libraries’.
TL;DR, you are doing it wrong.
I recommend to start over:
Separate your ‘movie’ content from ‘tv series’ content into separate folders.
The same applies to music and photos.

If you already have all your movies listed in your ‘Movies’ library, (which is visible in your screen shot), you are better off creating ‘Collections’ for your Harry Potter movies etc.

I just tried to add one of the hp movies to a collection by going through the edit details tab and it didn’t add it to any collection, the only collection I have is just called movies and it just has the films from my movies library
The labels on the left side are ‘Libraries’.
Both ‘Collections’ and ‘Playlists’ (which do also exist in Plex) have as prerequisite that the movies are added first into a library.
And to add your movies successfully into a library, you first have to name the files a certain way. Then you point the ‘Movies’ library to the folder which contains all the movies and let it chew away on it. See my links above.

You cannot delete movies from a library.
Which movies appear in a library depends on which files are in the folder to which the library is ‘connected’.
Yes, if you use the ‘deletion’ feature within Plex, the files themselves are deleted. So don’t do that. (You can also disable this ‘deletion’ feature completely in the preferences.)
yea I see that otto, im going to redownload them all real quick then let you know how it goes, how do I remove a movie from my library then? I don’t see a remove tab or anything
You remove it from the folder full of movies plex is looking at.
As I said above: You need to make folders for your Plex libraries.
Create for instance a folder named ‘Movies’. Into this you move all movie files, which should appear in your ‘movies’ library within Plex.
Then you connect your ‘Movies’ library only to this folder.
