My Plex Account was Hacked Today.
I changed my password as per the email I was sent, I also had to change my username - can’t remember why I had to do that - I was repeatedly told my original username was taken!
I then found out that I can no longer access my server. Sever not online - so, after a few hours of getting nowhere I decided to delete my sever and start again. I downloaded and re-install the Plex Sever Software, but it I still couldn’t add media. The software repeatedly asks me to install the “Plex Sever Software”.
I’ve now found out that the person who hacked my server not only changed my password, but my username and my email address too.
None of the emails I received allowed me to reset my email address.
At the moment my server is under my original username of dotcomjohnny, but the email address is now: wvmzrrtj9q@privaterelay.appleid.com and I have no idea what the password is.
Is there anyway to get me server back?
If I deleted my account and started again - would I lose my Lifetime Plex Pass?
I also got three emails within hours that my account had been accessed (from far-flung IPs in Zambia, Norway, Florida). Before I even saw the email, when I tried to get into my account the PIN had been changed.
I have since got in, changed my password and PIN, but I’m worried about what hackers may have accessed.
Hi,
I emailed billing at support.
I can now log in to my account using my email address and password.
As I explained yesterday, after many repeated attempts to access my sever (which I couldn’t ) I decided to delete it and start again (my server only contain music, so so big deal to re-install).
My problem now is that I can’t add media, Plex continues to ask me to install the Plex Media Software (which I already have install - and yes I’ve deleted it and reinstalled it a few times.
I believe my sever is still under the hackers account, which is why I can’t add any new media.
Remember to open the bundled version of Plex Web from your newly installed Plex Media Server to complete the setup (e.g. linking it to your account).
If you’re on the same machine, open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If the Plex Media Server is on a different machine, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead.
