Help! I’m having an issue with my Plex, and I’m a technical idiot. I use WD’s MyCloud Home unit as my server, and didn’t used to have issues. But the other night, I noticed that two of my playlists had been emptied, and none of the other files could be found. An hour or so later, the entire MyCloud server disappeared. I can still see it on my laptop and move files back and forth, but Plex won’t see it.
Going down the list under Plex’s tech support, I have the current version of Plex Media Server installed and it’s actively running. The server WAS listed on my devices page for a time, then disappeared. I’ve since rebooted EVERYTHING, my server, my router, my laptop and MyCloud remains invisible, at least as far as Plex is concerned.
I don’t know what VPN is or how to disable it. Ditto proxies. Both on my computer or on my router.
My server and Plex are on the same local network. I don’t know what a subnet is, or a subnet mask.
I totally don’t understand the paragraph below “Can’t Access Server Settings.” I don’t know how to find IP addresses or how to change them on my router.
I use a MacBook Air laptop, running MacOS Big Sur, Version 11.2.3. My router is through Dish Network (AT&T), and is a 5268 AC.
Is there anyone out there able and willing to be patient with a techno-idiot?
It sounds like you’ve installed Plex Media Server on your MyCloud Home. If this is the case, I probably can’t help since my setup is different.
I have an old Mac mini running Plex Media Server and I have the MyCloud shared volumes that contain my media permanently mounted on the Mac Plex Media Server desktop. When I created libraries in Plex Media Server, I was able to simply navigate to the mounted MyCloud volumes like any other mounted hard drives or shared volumes which eliminated all the techo-confusion like VPN’s (Virtual Private Networks), router settings, IP addresses, subnets, proxies etc. As long as you can mount the MyCloud volumes on the Server’s desktop, the Plex Media Server should be able to access them without fuss. I run copies of Plex (media player) on computers and devices other than the Mac that is running Plex Media Server.
