Hi everybody, I’m having a weird inconsistent server connection issue, I’ll explain my set up as best as I can, hoping some of you will have a solution for me.
Set Up:
MyCloud Home connected in ethernet to my home’s internet
I use Plex through 5 potential devices: 2 macbooks and 3 Apple TVs, all in my house, all connected to the same and unique wifi
I have another plex server coming from one of the macbooks, as long as the macbook is on, this one works great from any devices
The problem:
All 3 Apple TVs cannot find the MyCloud plex server anymore
One Macbook connects fine to the MyCloud plex server via plex.com
The other macbook connects fine locally (127.0.0.1) to its local server and does find the server on MyCloud too, however it doesn’t find it on plex.com… when the other macbook does… what.
When the issue started:
Everything has been perfectly fine for the longest time, but a couple weeks ago I started to see my Apple TVs not connecting to it, I don’t care so much about the macbooks.
What I checked:
Everything is on the same wifi
Remote Access is enabled
Secure Connections is set as “Preferred”
Apps on Apple TV are up to date
I can’t control what version of Plex Server I have since it comes through MyCloud
There is a bug with the WD My Cloud Home devices. We are working on a wider fix. For now, I’ve changed something on your account. Try restarting PMS on the WD.
Thank you for your response. Glad to know I’m not alone with this issue, couldn’t figure out what was happening. I just restarted the drive but no changes. Let me know if there’s anything else I should do. I don’t think there’s an actual way to restart PMS through the MyCloud Home Website, so aside from rebooting the whole drive I’m not sure what else I can do.
Thank you. It did work, I have access from my Apple TV again. Though I also lost all my preferences, content info/covers customization, playlists, watch status… I’m assuming this can’t be retrieved?
Huh, disabling PMS does not delete your server settings so I’m not sure how things could have been lost. All that is in the Plex database. Did you also lose your libraries? That’s in the database too so it would be odd if you did not lose your libraries, but lost everything else. Do you have your server logs from this restart?
What happened is, after disabling it, the only option I had was Enable, which then turned into Configure. That started the Server Setup flow, (first you decide of a name, then select the type of content you’re importing…) which then scanned my hard drive content to bring it in the library, so it couldn’t get my preferences and history because it didn’t re-enabled the original server but created a new one. I just tried this again and it did the same thing.
Is there any particular log (by name) you’re looking for? there’s a lot in there.
