I might be jumping the gun on this, but my server has been running without crashes for 3 days now. That’s great for me because it was becoming daily…
FIXES

  • reinstalled plex but kept old metadata and files/folders
  • I updated server to newest version
  • Finally I had my movies set to the new Plex Movie agent, but I switched it back to Legacy. While on legacy it started to scan through my files again, but while it was scanning, I went to settings<manage< libraries and under my movies library there was an upgrade button, I clicked it and unchecked refresh.

It seemed like that fixed my issue, I will let you guys know if continues to work.

nvm it crashed :frowning:

Hey, just got alerted tot his thread. From your initial logs it appears PMS is running into some sort of corruption issue. I’m not sure if it’s in the RAM/hard drive/PMS database. There was only 1 crash in those logs. Can you get me a new log with the latest crash?

I’m looking and I see the same error in your log. However, the activities leading up to it are slightly different. Your’s appears to be an issue with the database not being able to access enough memory.

@Hawaiiankaikai and @tramp78

Lets see if it’s the database. Can you guys try these steps?

  • go to the database folder using explorer
  • you should see
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.blobs.db
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.blobs.db-shm
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.blobs.db-wal
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.db
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.db-shm
    – com.plexapp.plugings.library.db-wal
  • shutdown PMS
  • the 2 shm and 2 wal files should go away after a few seconds

If those files don’t go away, this is likely the problem.

  • Manually delete these files
  • restart PMS
  • those files should come back
  • wait about a minute and shutdown PMS again

Do those files go away this time? If yes, you should be good to go. If not, there is possibly an issue with the main database file. You may need to try repairing the database, Repair a Corrupt Database | Plex Support.

The server has 16 gig and almost 50% of that is free.

Both of those files go away when you stop PLEX and come back when you start.
I tried that repair process.
Stopped PLEX, made a backup of the database. ran:

ā€œC:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex SQLite.exeā€ com.plexapp.plugins.library.db ā€œPRAGMA integrity_checkā€

got this error back

Failed to start child process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe

Huh. ā€œPlex SQlite.exeā€ load the pms exe so something is broken there. I’m not able to reproduce. I wonder if there is an issue with your install. Can you try grabbing the installer from the downloads page or if you use the autoupdate feature, you can find it in your ā€œUpdatesā€ folder. Try running a ā€œrepairā€ and see if that helps.

I’ll try it later tonight if my mom ever stops watching ā€œAll Creatures Great and Smallā€!!! LOL.

That said, it has been several days since it stopped so things seem to have calmed down a bit.

Mine both turn off and on… the 2 shm and 2 wal files

Been following this thread closely as I was having the same issues for a while. Started a month or two ago with an update, after that rolled back and it was very hit or miss.

I don’t know if this is related, but since I’ve disabled the DLNA server I don’t seem to have the issues anymore (knock on wood).

Ive just disabled mine. I guess we will see

Having the same issue since upgrading to 1.25.2.5319. Plex is running in docker, and I can’t find anything in the logs. Server becomes unresponsive overnight. Has been working fine for a couple of days, then dead over night. DLNA is off. I have just rebuilt my entire setup a couple weeks ago. I was running the beta and it crashed and wouldn’t keep running for more than a few minutes. I’m running public release and wasn’t having any issues until this update a couple days ago. Now it’s doing this.

Oh, I think I know what the issue might be. Can you guys PM me a zipped copy of your database so I can check something?

My plex have recently started crashing at night.

here’s another log. Several shows were playing. An album locally and a tv show remotely. I started a movie that I was half way through and tried to fast forward and it hung. Turned out the server quit. The album continued to play in the other room because it had downloaded several minutes of music (I guess) so I restarted the server and it all came back. The album never skipped a beat.
