My Plex server is not working for other users

I’ve had a plex server set up for many years. I decided I wanted to give my mom separate access. It pointed out that I needed a Plex Pass to add other users to the server, so I signed up for a Plex Pass. Then, it said my server was out of date, so I used the update function on the settings menu to allow it to upgrade. Now my server is upgraded and the settings page says my server is up to date. I was able to add my mom as a user, but when either she tries to log in or I simpy do a “switch user…” while I’m logged in, it gives me the following error message:

This version of the web app requires Plex Media Server 1.3.0 or higher. Use one of the links below to open an available, out of date server directly.

It doesn’t matter if I log in through plex.tv, to my server directly externally, or to my server directly from within my home network, the result is the same. I’ve tried restarting the Windows 10 machine where Plex is installed… It doesn’t matter if I use Chrome or Firefox… Same result.

Any tips?

Do you have any web browser Add-Ons installed in your browser?
It appears your server is active and available, so I can’t understand what is going on.

Do you have more than one Plex server?

Here is something to try:
Disable ‘Secure Connections’ for now.
This is only for debugging purposes, I simply want to know if this changes anything.

If you currently cannot access your server, we must change this preference in the Registry.

  1. Quit Plex server with the task tray icon
  2. unzip the attached .reg file and double click it (you can open it in notepad.exe to see what it contains - it is just one registry key)
  3. reboot your server
  4. close and re-open all Plex clients and web browsers after a few minutes

Thanks. I tried it and still the same result. I reinstalled, same result. I removed the user and then added back…

I noticed something prior to doing that though. For some reason, it was telling me I was sharing two libraries… So when I added back the user, selected all libraries, it now says 9 libraries. It could be that somehow I had 0 libraries checked? Not sure as I can’t look back at how it was previously set up, but even though it was telling me 2 libraries, perhaps it was no libraries and then gave a funny error message about the server being out of date?

I still have no other idea than that you somehow have 2 servers running in parallel. Are you using several computers?
Did you install the Server software at your mother’s computer as well? That’s not necessary. She only needs to login at plex.tv and then click on Launch there.

Which web browser are you using? Are you using the old Chrome “app” ?
