Apologies in advance if this is a little all over the place or I have left important information out, this is the first time I’ve ever written on a fourm and I have only being using Plex for just over a month.
My issue is that the horror film Rec will just not scan into my Plex library at all. I am at a complete loss as to why.
This is how I have it all set out:
External Hard Drive/Movies/Rec (2007)/Rec.mp4
If I am labelling wrong, please let me know, but from what I can tell it is all correct. I have done about 250 - 300 films with no issues, even Rec’s sequels have all synced without a problem, it is just that film. Which is typical as it is one of my favourites.
I read somewhere about putting it in it’s own folder and having my server scan this folder, but sadly that did not work either.
Any information anyone could give me would be massively appreciated.
Also apologies if I have put this in the wrong category on the fourm.
So, in theory this is what you have to use as folder and filenames.
However, angular brackets have a special role in Plex (text in brackets is ignored for matching), so this might not be the best idea.
make sure that your mp4 file does not have an embedded ‘Title’ metatag which contains something else than ‘Rec’ or ‘[Rec]’
I have tried both options given to me, but sadly neither have seemed to work. So I hoenstly have no idea as to why I can’t get this file to show on my server.
Oh i did forget to say in my original post that I had tried the file as both [Rec] & Rec and neither made a difference for me.
If it’s the later might be worth checking to see it it has been matched as Total Recall
fwiw, I just added it to my Library named like this [REC] (2007)/[REC] (2007).mkv
and it picked it up on first scan (I am using the “Plex Movie” Agent)
I am using Plex Movie agent it says, i just flicked between the two now to see if it found it, but sadly no, so I put it back to Plex Movie Agent.
The only other thing is that mine is an mp4 file and not mkv, but every other film I’ve done as an mp4 and it’s been fine.
I do also have a bonus feature with the file, but I have checked to make sure that is all correct and it is and I have even removed it to make sure that it wasn’t having an effect, which it wasn’t.
Have you looked at the Plex Media Scanner.log after trying to add the file. It could just be permissions or something assuming it is not being misclassified as another movie.
MP4 files can have embedded metadata and many apps which create them insert their own info into the title field which might be getting picked up and Plex is using that title. so it might have been misclassified because of that.
Thanks for the response. I had not checked it as I was not aware of it, so thank you for pointing me to it.
What I have found in the logs is this:
Jul 26, 2019 19:43:47.934 [4844] DEBUG - Request: [::ffff:127.0.0.1:58166 (Loopback)] GET /:/metadata/updateProgressMessage?message=Scanning%20[Rec]%20(2007) (12 live) GZIP Signed-in Token
Jul 26, 2019 19:43:47.935 [7056] DEBUG - Completed: [::ffff:127.0.0.1:58166] 200 GET /:/metadata/updateProgressMessage?message=Scanning%20[Rec]%20(2007) (12 live) GZIP 0ms 166 bytes
It appears to match exactly like all my other films, so I am confused, if you are able to see something wrong with this it would be greatly appreciated.
If not you could try viewing your movie library and selecting duplicates from the drop down and then check to see if rec has been identified as a duplicate of something else.
I was literally about to reply, I just scoured my library again to make sure I wasn’t missing something and I wasn’t being a complete idiot and it turns out it had duplicated itself as Quarantine the US remake.
Apologise for all of this when it was just me being an idiot, the only thing that had me stumped is that it had not appeared in my recently listed films and I didn’t even think it may have copied itself in as Quarantine.
Thanks everyone for the replies, I now know how to navigate Plex a bit more which I am sure will be useful in the future!
