My Sony google tv version of Plex locks up on subtitles now

I think this has been reported before as unable to play plex downloaded movies on Google TV but some people have not clued in that turning off the sub-titles fixes the issue.
The problem is sub titles work on every other player i have, just not the GoogleTV build into my sony TV. Every time plex does an automatic upgrade i hope the condition gets fixed but this has been going on for months. (I think at first it did work until a plex upgrade months back but its been long enough i cannot say for sure).
It shows up because it appears the default for much playback is subtitles on English forced. So when we play the spinning logo comes on and wont go away until i disable the sub titles.

Experiencing a similar issue here:
When forced subs (SRT) are being automatically selected, the video gets transcoded/subs are being burnt in.
When I deselect the subs the video starts without transcoding. After reselecting the same subtitles that have been automatically selected before the video still doesn’t get transcoded and plays finely.

Did you try reselecting the subs after turning them off?

Nevertheless - it’s definitely a software issue regarding the Android TV app.

I did try re-enabling and trying different srt options. They all cause the lockup and it only happens on the TVs player. I even built a newer server with a dedicated graphics card to see if changing the transcoding methods would help but it behaved the same.
