Naming NCIS and cross over episodes

I’ve read a couple of others that had similar problems but nothing helped.

NCIS Season 20 has cross over episodes between NCIS.S20E01.A Family Matter (I) and NCIS. Hawai’i.S02E01.Prisoners’ Dilemma (II). How do I name these files so they show in the correct order for NCIS?

There is not any built in way to handle crossovers unfortunately.

Sometimes you can get away with naming things like S02E00 to come before the first episode but that will not really work in this case since the Hawaii one is the second part of that storyline.

You can maybe add it as as extra but not all clients handle extras for episodes https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

Or just name them like like you have one episode split across multiple files like disc1 for the NCIS episode and disc2 for the NCIS Hawaii episode so it will end up playing back to back like a really long episode. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/#toc-5

Funny I had never watched NCIS until recently when watching Hawai’i Five-Oh and there was a crossover episode that started in Hawaii Five-Oh and the story ended in NCIS.

I don’t know how often crossovers happen between these NCIS and other shows but what I tend to do with shows that crossover is to create a collection (usually a smart collection) and include all the episodes in order of when they were aired.

Some examples are a Defenders Saga smart collection which has Jessica Jones, Dare Devil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, a Cloak & Runaway collection with Cloak & Dagger and The Runaways (yes I watch a lot of Marvel Stuff) and probably the most used is What Happens in Chicago that has Chicago P.D, Chicago Med, and Chicago Fire.

I watch all these shows directly from the collections and you might have to go down that route in order to have things happen in the proper order.

Thank you for the insight. I don’t like the solution, but what I did is go ahead and create a folder for the other series so I would at least have access to it.

That’s a great idea. I’ll give that a try.
