NAS Server is SUDDENLY "unreachable" by Plex - MAC

Hi everyone. Got a problem that I’m hoping someone can help with. My Plex NAS server was working yesterday with all my Movies and TV Shows (and custom poster, etc) and NOW Plex keeps telling me that my server is “unreachable” and I can no longer access any of my contents on Plex. I am running a MAC Computer with a Synology 4 NAS.

Here’s what I’ve done already:

  • updated the Plex Media Server.
  • Uninstalled old server
unpinned and then re-pinned the Movies and TV Shows from the side menu (another chatline told me to do this).
  • Signed out and Signed in (and YES, my server is ON and on the SAME Network as my NAS)

Can anyone assist me any further? Unfortunately I can’t contact anyone at Plex as all they seem to offer is a FAQ page (of which doesn’t help).

Just hoping that I don’t need to delete my account and re-upload all the movies and episodes. That’s A LOT of work) not to mention the custom posters and categories. PLEASE HELP!

Some of what you’ve shared is incomplete.

Please tell me:

  1. Which specific, by model name/number , you have
  2. Which DSM version are you using

(These are found in Control Panel - Info Center)

  1. Please tell me which version of Plex is installed on the NAS (Package Center)

  2. As long as you don’t delete anything, we’ll be able to pull it back together.

Hi there.

Not sure what you mean by “Which specific, by model name/number, you have” - Not really sure what you are asking here as the question is incomplete. What are you referring to?

Not sure what DSM is.

I reinstalled the latest Plex Media Server but not sure how to find out what version is on the NAS.

Sorry, but I’m not a huge tech guy so all these abbreviations and assumptions that I know what I’m doing don’t really stick with me. Can you please help me and explain a solution in terms a “normal” person would understand? Thank you.

@chaderook

I think I see what you did.

You tagged server-synology when your server isn’t running on the NAS ?

You only have MacOS and the Syno is for media storage only?

That’s correct. But one minute everything was connected and working fine and the next, all my media on Plex is gone and Plex keeps saying that the NAS Server is “unreachable”. The NAS is just to store the HUNDREDS of DVD’s and TV Shows so that I can safely store and access them through the NAS online (through Plex) and not need to have hundreds of DVDs lying around.

So can you confirm if your NAS is still working and you can connect to it from another machine on your network. This does sound like either a NAS hardware, NAS config or a networking issue.

On your MAC, can you see the NAS in Finder under “locations”?
If not, kit “Command”+“k” then try to connect to your server/NAS, does that connect?

Other things to make sure
You are using static IP address in your network
That the paths in the libraries in Plex are correct for your NAS configuration
Look in your NAS logs for any login errors, for example could be an authentication issue

Most obvious thing is to check that your plex server is accessible to the net via the settings page under network. It will tell you if it’s connected to then plex servers/ your account.

I have the same problem as described above but with “Library not available” after the Check for Updates installed version 1.26.0.5715
Just moments before that I had no issues.
I’m running Plex Server on an Intel i5 machine with some libraries on the same machine and others on a Synology Drive that I have no problems with access.
This happened before after an update but was resolved when Plex send out another update to fix this same issue. For me to have to rescan and rebuild my whole database again will take me a long time and is not what I want right now.
Will a fix be coming for this?

I’ve tried everything I can but unfortunately I still can’t connect. I must be doing something wrong. Just wish Plex actually had tech support that could walk me through the step by step process as opposed to their FAQ page which doesn’t help at all.

I honestly don’t know why it’s not connected to the internet or how to do so. EVERYTHING was working and I didn’t change a single thing. Then it just stopped working…this NEEDS to be made easier.

It might be the latest macOS update. It seemed to bork some of the Security & Privacy settings. Check this thread:

Good luck!
