I am running Plex on a Synology DS918+. Occasionally, when I don’t update the Plex version, I get a NAS Server is unavailable. Today, I got the message and when I ran the Plex update, the Server was still unavailable. I have rebooted the server; tried different versions of the update, reloaded what I think is the correct update - PlexMediaServer-1.21.1.3876-3c3adfcb4-x86_64
I am hesitant to remove Plex and reinstall because it probably will unlink my movie files from the metadata.
Would much appreciate suggestions. Thanks in advance.
First thing to check is confirming the server is correctly associated to your account.
Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown)
Look for the name.
If it’s there more than once, remove the oldest duplicate(s).
Now, sign out of Plex/web (at your avatar - upper right)
Close the tab & open a new one.
http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web
It should respond to you now.
If not, make certain you are on the same subnet as it is (requirement) because it probably needs claiming (signing in) again.
I deleted the older duplicates in the list of authorized devices. When I tried to open a tab at http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web
I get a message that “We can’t connect to the server at lan.ip.of.syno.”
I am a bit lost. Much appreciate the help.

Jon,
Don’t use the text I gave you literally.
Substitute the actual LAN IP of the syno in that URL.
my Syno is 192.168.0.23.
Therefore: http://192.168.0.23:32400/web
Do the same for your environment there.
Done. Getting message
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.37:32400
I have access to the server from file explorer and other programs.
If I use a different browser, I can get to the NAS with that entry. But it doesn’t impact Plex on that NAS. I have another NAS box and Plex is working fine on that box. Puzzling.

So peel the onion layers. — what are the differences?
- IP is different (obvious) but are they on the same subnet ?
- Any local MAC/VLAN switch magic happening?
- Firewalls?
same subnet.
Different DNS
No switch magic
I have Bitdefender on the desktop that I use to connect to the boxes.
In reviewing the Control Panel for the NAS, I found that in the Service Tab the Plex Media Server was not enabled. I tried to enable but it wouldn’t save.
Plex is not running. The Tab says Run. When I click the Run, I get a Loading message. But nothing changes
I tried downloading from different browsers (I didn’t know how to compare the checksums.
Plex couldn’t connect with the Synology NAS with any of the downloads.
Logs.zip (2.0 MB)
I have attached the log.
Note I have two Synology NAS. Plex worked on both until a few days ago. Plex is working on the older NAS but not working on the newer one that I use for streaming videos.
I much appreciate your assistance.

I can’t get into the server
The media files are there. I can see them and run then via other applications.
I don’t understand.
Help
Jon W.
Should I remove the Server as an authorized device and then re-add it?
I deleted the data base file per the instructions on database repair. It had no impact.
I rebooted several times and reloaded Plex and it worked. Plex can see the NAS. I need to redefine the libraries (which is easy) and reconnect the metadata when the automatic associations don’t work (which is laborious) but it is all doable.
Thank you very much.

regarding the media & metadata :
- The most common root cause is non-standard / ambiguous naming.
- Automated tools, such as FileBot, correct the naming to Plex standard.
- matching is both automatic and quick.
